The new plan

“Good morning ma’am, would you like a table?”

Hira: thank you, but someone is waiting for me

And she signaled on the table where Jagdev was sitting, the waiter smiled and bowed his head, and Hira entered the café and walked to Jagdev’s table, and sat on the chair opposite to him

Jagdev: I thought after our last call I will find difficulty to convince you to come and see the proof of Adarsh’s crime yourself

Hira: I didn’t sleep all night, can you order for me a coffee like yours?

Jagdev signaled to the waiter then signaled on his cup of coffee

Jagdev: before you see the proof, did uncle tried to call you after our last call?

Hira: yes, all night and I didn’t answer him and I didn’t come to see the proof, I came to ask you, why uncle hid from me that the reason for Sanjay’s depression was me?

Jagdev: how did you know that?

Hira: I remembered Sanjay there and I remembered him saying that Adarsh was inside the factory (then tears crowded in her eyes) uncle knew didn’t he?

Jagdev looked down then nodded faintly with a frown and Hira frowned as tears flow on her cheek

Hira: so I took 11 years of Sanjay’s life and you wanted me to take the rest of it too? What kind of people are we?

Jagdev frowned: People who have right to torture Adarsh for the rest of his life (then he looked down) but you are right Hira, Sanjay doesn’t deserve to pay the price and I have the proof for that too

Hira: I don’t understand

Jagdev pushed his phone towards her and she looked at it, then looked back at him

Jagdev: these are video recordings from a surveillance camera showing the front gate of the factory in the day of the crime

Hira’s eyes widened and looked at the phone then looked at Jagdev

Hira: why those recordings are with us and not with the police? It would have imprisoned Adarsh

Jagdev frowned: Prison is not enough, even his death is not enough, but to answer your question, Adarsh stole them and we were able to get them back recently, sadly we were only able to get the front door recordings not that on the back door, but it’s more than enough, see them and don’t think I will give it to you, this is the last time you will see these videos

Hira swallowed and opened the first Video and it was for the blue car parking and a man she assumed its Adarsh getting out and going around the factory, then Sanjay getting out of the car and standing in front of it

The second Video was for Sanjay jumping inside and Hira knew it was when he saw her; the third Video was for him jumping out

Jagdev: it was hours of recordings, I cut for you the minutes you need to see

Hira opened the fourth Video which was the longest, but a bit blurry due to the smoke but it was clear that Sanjay holding on the gate, trying to climb but Adarsh pulled him down, then slapped him, the 13 years old boy fell on the ground, Adarsh picked him up and pushed him inside the car, then picked up several weightless containers and throw them in the trunk of the car and drove away

Jagdev: if you don’t know those are gasoline containers and they are empty, I don’t have to tell you what he did with them

Hira sobbed and Jagdev’s eyes widened and looked around then patted on her hand kindly

Jagdev whispered: we are in public, calm down

Hira in low tone: Sanjay wanted to save me but Adarsh stopped him, he really is a coldblooded murderer, I wanted him to be innocent, I really did

Jagdev: calm down, see the next Video

Hira: I don’t want to see more, please

Jagdev: it’s okay, I will tell you what is in it, it’s you being thrown out of the ground floor window, who saved you from the fire, I need to know

Hira wiped her tears and smiled: Papa, he wasn’t in the factory before but he came when it was on fire, he carried me, and I remember his words clearly he told me “where is your mother?” I signaled upstairs, he told me “I will bring her and we will go home and live together again “and kissed me then threw me out of a broken window (and she looked down) but they didn’t get out, they couldn’t

(A tear dropped from Jagdev’s eyes and Hira looked at him surprised but he wiped it fast)

Hira: I should mention that Sanjay broke that window with the ball, the window that saved me

Jagdev: that is not important, what is important now is that Sanjay is out of our new plan

Hira frowned confused: great but uncle agrees on this?

Jagdev: no, that is why we will work on our own plan from now on, and you keep not answering his calls, we won’t follow his orders anymore

Hira’s eyes widened: what?!! So the new plan you called me about was yours not uncle’s but I thought you are his assistant, if you are not following his orders anymore, why you want to take revenge from the Singh Khatri? !!! Do you have a personal vengeance with them?

Jagdev: all you need to know is that with me you will get your parents’ right and Sanjay won’t be harmed but with uncle; Sanjay will lose his life, choose

Hira: what about the other person in the mansion with uncle? He will hurt Sanjay (then she leaned forward) unless you tell me who is this person?

Jagdev: Hira, you don’t have here but two choices either you are with me or with uncle who want to hurt your Sanjay

Hira frowned: and who you want to hurt?

Jagdev: those who deserve to be hurt, Viola and Jude  

Hours Later

Marie: don’t think I will ask you to stay; I will hire a new housekeeper

Sonia turned to her and frowned, then continued packing her clothes

Sonia: I feel sorry for her already 

Marie frowned: what is this supposed to mean?

Sonia: it means what you think it means (then she turned) now can you get out and let me pack my clothes in peace?!!

Marie: I can’t, what if you stole something?!!

Sonia’s eyes widened: I steal from you?!! you (then she frowned) apparently you forgot our past “ma’am”, I am the one who used to share her clothes with you so girls stop making fun of your worn out clothes and do I need to remind you that your older brother Joseph used to beat people for money before Adarsh open for him and Johnny “the security office”; that I am sure he uses as a cover for doing the same thing (then she smirked) so I guess I am the one who should count her fingers before leaving

Marie’s eyes widened: oh now I have to bring you from your hair at my feet

Sonia frowned: I would like to see you try, Marie

Marie angrily grabbed Sonia’s hair and Sonia screamed in Pain and grabbed Marie’s hair as well, both fell on the bed, screaming and kicking

The door opened like a storm, and Sanjay entered, behind him Eve  

Sanjay: oh my god, Ma; what are you doing?!! Stop

And he carried Marie off Sonia, but Marie was still holding Sonia’s hair so the later got dragged off the bed and fell on the floor, Marie kicked in the air and punched, and Sonia sat on the floor frowning and fixing her hair bun

Marie: Sanjay put me down; I am not finished with her yet

Eve helped Sonia up, as Sanjay put Marie down  

Sanjay: no more fighting, I need to ask you something?

Marie smiled: yes my little man, anything you need

Eve: Hira is gone, we can’t find her anywhere

Marie frowned: I wasn’t speaking to you (then she smiled) but really? That is great news

Sanjay frowned: she is coming back, Ma; all her things and her family are here (then he frowned) but I know it’s she got out like that because something happened with her yesterday, something made her cry all night, do you know what happened to her, ma?

Marie frowned: and you naturally assumed your bad mother who did that to her?!!

Sanjay frowned: ma, I remember 11 years ago, Nelly’s photo fitted in my wallet, why suddenly it’s as big as the wall!!

Marie smiled innocently: oh that, that was just a welcome gift for you; I know how much you love Nelly

Sanjay: Ma, I don’t love Nelly (then he frowned) and I remember you hated her, what changed?

Marie’s eyes widened: I always liked her and I like Hira too by the way, why you have such an image on me

Sanjay sighed and walked out and Marie smiled widely and looked at Sonia

Marie: I told you it will bother her, I won’t leave that Hira till I drive her out of here

Sonia shook her head: you are unbelievable!!

(Marie smiled proudly, then she frowned to Eve who was still standing in the corner, leaning on the wall with closed eyes)

Marie: if you want to sleep standing like a horse, do it in your room

Eve opened her eyes: sorry ma, I didn’t sleep all night, I came to tell you that (then she looked down) the twins, Hira’s nanny’s sons I mean, broke your vase, I am sorry

Marie’s eyes widened: Don’t tell me the 2 meter Vase, the one Adarsh hand painted for me

Eve nodded faintly and Marie frowned and walked out; Sonia and Eve rushed behind her

Sonia: please calm down, they are just Kids

Marie stood in front of the broken shattered Vase then looked with widened eyes at the two boys who were standing beside it, with two security men beside them

Pedro: aunty, I swear not me or Mario

Mario: we told Eve we found it like that but she didn’t believe us

Eve: okay I will believe you if you explained, why we found this ball beside the vase, isn’t this your ball?

Marie looked at the ball on the chair then nodded faintly

Marie frowned: you can’t stay here, get out of my mansion

Hira entered with faint frown and looked at the broken Vase then at her brothers

Hira: what happened? Why security standing beside my brothers?

Eve: I am sorry Hira, but they broke a very special vase and...

Marie: don’t apologize to her (then she frowned) your brothers have to leave the mansion, they are not behaving in a proper manner

Hira: it was just an accident, I am sure they are sorry

Pedro: we didn’t do it; we don’t know why our ball here but we didn’t do it

Marie strictly: see? They even don’t have the decency to confess, they have to go

Sanjay descended the stairs running and looked with widened eyes at the twins then at Hira

Sanjay: what are you saying, ma? No one is leaving

Hira rushed towards him and hugged him and Marie’s eyes widened, then she frowned as Sanjay smiled faintly and patted on her back

Hira: I am so sorry, Sanjay

Sanjay: for what? it’s just a vase

Marie: it’s not just a vase, your father made for me this Vase

Adarsh came through the gate and behind him Jude who was holding a suitcase

Adarsh: what happen, Marie; I am hearing your voice from outside

Marie frowned: the twins broke my vase

Adarsh: I will make for you another one; don’t make a big deal out of it

Marie frowned: fine (then she pulled Sonia’s hand) let’s go, you are not quitting

And they went away as Adarsh smiled to Hira and said in low tone

Adarsh: I am sorry dear Hira, are you okay?

Hira in low tone: please, don’t be kind to me

And she rushed away and both Sanjay and Adarsh looked at her surprised, and then looked at each other with confused frown  

Adarsh: what happened with her? (Then he said worried) your mother must been very hard on her

Sanjay nodded and was about to go but Adarsh held his shoulder, Sanjay’s eyes widened and frowned looking at his hand as if Adarsh made a great mistake by touching him, Adarsh took his hand back and smiled

Adarsh: you will go see her, Sanjay; but I need to speak with you first

Sanjay frowned: to me?!!!

Adarsh nodded then looked at the twins who were looking down

Adarsh: you go apologize to your sister

Mario: I swear uncle, we didn’t break it, we found it like that and our ball between the pieces of the vase

Pedro: we told Eve, Hira and the two huge men, but no one believed us

Adarsh smiled: I believe you and it’s not a big deal anyway, it’s just a vase (then he said in low tone) you real concern should be Hira, if I were in your place, I would go pick some flowers from the garden before going apologizing (then he smiled) and don’t let Mrs. Singh Khatri see you

Sanjay without noticing smiled faintly as Adarsh ruffled Mario’s hair

Mario: you are the best, uncle Adarsh

And they both ran out and Adarsh looked at them with wide smile then his smile vanished looking at Jude and Sanjay

Adarsh: Let’s talk in the office room

And he entered the office room and Sat on the desk, Jude looked at Sanjay then both entered the office with faint frown, Sanjay closed the door and that is when Hira who was hiding beside the elevator walked towards the office room and put all her hair on one side to clear the way for the words behind the door to her ear

Adarsh smiled: sit down, Sanjay

Sanjay frowned: no need for that, I am not staying for long

Jude frowned then looked at Adarsh who smiled faintly and looked down

Adarsh: okay, as you wish (then he smiled) I have great news for both of you our factory name will change from “Anthony and Ameer” for cardboard to “Anthony, Ameer & Adarsh for cardboard”

Jude smiled widely: congratulation Papa, I had no idea, this is amazing

Adarsh: yes, I finally was able raise my shares from 25 to 30 percent share, yes I am still the lowest share but I am the only executive owner, so I became the CEO, which means the position of COO is clear

Sanjay frowned: I don’t understand what I have to do with this?

Adarsh smiled: Jude, you will have the position of COO, congratulation my son, you earned it

Jude smiled widely: this is the best day of my life; I will make you so proud

Adarsh smiled: I am sure (then he looked at Sanjay) I will also need a vice president, Sanjay; what do you think?

Jude’s eyes widened: what?!!!!(Then he frowned) what does he understand in our work to take such position, I worked for years to earn my place

Adarsh frowned: JUDE (then he looked at Sanjay) what do you think Sanjay?

Sanjay: I don’t want to work for you, thank you; anything else?

Adarsh in low tone: yes (then he took a deep breath) Nelly

Hira outside put hear hand on her chest and held breath

Adarsh: Anthony’s daughter, remember her?

Jude swallowed and sat straight as Sanjay closed his eyes and sighed..

Sanjay: I forgot her, so why are you all remembering her?

Adarsh smiled: didn’t your mother tell you, she finished her diploma in music in London and came to open a recording business here a year ago and since you are also back to your old self, I was thinking perhaps it’s time for you to meet, maybe...   

Sanjay frowned: NO, there is no maybe; you chained me to a life I don’t want to live for 11 years, you are not going to decide how I should live the rest of it, you understand?

And he held the knob of the door and Hira ran and hid beside the elevator and Sanjay got out of the room, and rushed to the elevator, was about to open it but saw Hira, she passed her fingers between her hair nervously

Sanjay smiled: Hira, would you like to go for a walk with me? I really need that and I think you need it to 

Hira smiled and nodded faintly, and he held her hand but...

Jude: Sanjay, my brother

(Hira left Sanjay’s hand as Jude rushed to Sanjay with kind smile and he put his hand on Sanjay’s shoulder, Sanjay’s eyes widened and looked at Jude’s hand)

Jude: Hira? Could you leave us for a minute?

Hira nodded: I will go wear comfortable shoes

Sanjay nodded faintly as Hira ascended the stairs but stopped in the middle of it when she heard..

Jude: Sanjay, there is something you need to think about, if you returned back to Nelly, I can get a second chance with Helen and be with my daughter

Sanjay: daughter?!!!! Nelly’s older sister Helen?!!

Jude smiled: yes, you don’t know of course how stupid am I? ok 7 years ago I married Helen, but after a month we got a divorce because of a silly incident (then he looked down) I lost my temper and hit her,  but I didn’t know she was pregnant I swear, so she took her divorce and a court order that I have no visiting rights for the baby so now I have a 6 years old daughter, I don’t know how she looks like, all I know that her name is Mia; so you are my only chance to have my daughter in my arms again

Sanjay’s eyes got lost for a moment then it fell on Hira who was standing on the stairs and looking at him shocked then she frowned and ran upstairs

Sanjay: Hira? HIRA WAIT

And he ran behind her, and Jude frowned and screamed

Jude: SANJAY

Hira went towards Viola’s room and opened the door like a storm, Mateo and Viola who were smoking looked at her with widened eyes

Hira in Spanish: Mateo, take me to a place to dance and drink, I am ready

Mateo in Spanish: finally 

He smiled widely, then looked at Viola and Viola gave him two thumbs up and he ran out of the room hitting Sanjay’s shoulder in the process

Sanjay: Hira?

Hira looked at him with a frown and took a cigarette from Viola’s box and lighted it, Viola smiled widely to her

Viola: oh wow, I will start to like you, Hira

Hira smoked the cigarette and coughed, her face turned red then she walked angrily from the room to her room and Viola and Sanjay followed her, she opened her wardrobe and chose a short red dress

Sanjay: Hira, I don’t understand what is wrong with you? Did I do something wrong?

Hira turned with a frown, gave the cigarette back to Viola and threw the dress on the bed

Hira in Spanish: you thought about your brother’s request, you thought to return back to her, I saw it in your face (then she put her hand on her chest) and it feels like the fire finally reached to me, I don’t know why; and I don’t want to feel that (then she looked at him sadly) and I don’t think after what you gone through because of me, I have the right to (then her eyes crowded with tears) I am sorry, live your life as you wish

And she entered the bathroom and Sanjay looked at her shocked

Sanjay: can you say that again but not in Spanish?!!!!

Then he looked at Viola who was looking at him Hira shocked...

Sanjay: can you translate that, Viola?

Viola: I ...I am not sure I understand it, Sanjay

At Night

The nightclub is definitely not Sanjay’s favorite place, it felt so dark and stuffy but Hira, Viola and Mateo seemed to enjoy their time, so he smiled and pretended to enjoy it too

Viola: WAITER? ANOTHER WHISKY BOTTLE PLEASE

Sanjay smiled: I will have one orange juice

Viola smiled: AND ONE BABY FORMULA (then she chuckled) when you were 12 I caught you with beer and now you want to drink orange juice?!!

Sanjay: you will need someone to drive you home (then he frowned) don’t you see how Hira and Mateo are drinking, I didn’t know that Hira drinks that much

Viola looked at Hira, who was closing her eyes tightly as she swallowing her whisky and Mateo was drinking straight from the bottle as if he drinking water in a hot day

Viola: yeah, Hira drank so much for her first time drinking; it will be a hellish night for her

Sanjay: first time? How did you know that it’s her first time drinking?

Viola smiled: I am an expert, she is a first time drinker and she is sad as hell by the way

Sanjay: sad?!!

And he looked at Hira who was smiling widely and swaying with the music

Sanjay: why is she sad?

Viola chuckled: you are asking me, you are her friend; you are the one who should know!

Sanjay sighed and shook his head: I don’t know anything about Hira (then he smiled half a smile) and sometimes I feel she doesn’t want me to know her

Viola: yeah, maybe because she lied on her resume, Mateo told me that she is 21 not 23 and that she lived in Spain all her life, never worked here in any hospitals, she just came days ago, she also went to nursing school there not here and wants to go to medical school also there

Sanjay frowned confused: why she lied about all that?

Viola: I have no idea, she is a weird girl, who wants to be older beside all of this would have made her overqualified to be your nurse, so why she lied to us?

Sanjay looked at Hira with a frown, but she didn’t notice it as she drank another glass of whisky

Viola: drink what you want, Insanju; I will call Jude to come take us

Sanjay nodded and she took her phone and walked away from the table that near the dance floor to find a quieter place but as she walking she hit someone and his drink spilled over her phone

Viola gasped and looked at the man who raised his hand with empty cup then looked at her phone

Viola: oh my god, you broke my phone

The man: I am sorry, I was going towards my cousin’s table and wasn’t paying attention, I will pay for it and your orders are on me, I am the owner of the nightclub, Jagdev Patel

(And he waved to their table; Viola looked at the table then smiled)

Viola smiled widely: that is our table!!!

Jagdev: you know Hira?

Viola smiled: yes, wow I come to your nightclub all the time, I am Viola Singh Khatri

Jagdev smiled: I know

Meanwhile

Hira in Spanish: I WANT TO DANCE

Mateo: No

(And he covered his lips; Hira looked at Sanjay and pouted, then held his hand)

Hira: I want to dance, Sanju

Sanjay nodded and took Hira’s hand but she fell in the floor, Sanjay’s eyes widened and she chuckled while on the floor

Hira: I think maybe I am a little drunk

Sanjay raised her from the floor and hugged her to his chest and she leaned on it and closed her eyes

Sanjay: ok maybe we should go home 

Hira: no I am happy, I want to dance

And she opened her eyes and started to dance under his arm, he sighed and walked with her to the dance floor and she pushed him to break the hug, then smiled and moved her head, her arms and hips but Sanjay just kept looking at her, she put her wrists around his neck and pouted as she moving her hips

Hira: dance, Sanju; why are you not dancing

Sanjay: I don’t know how to dance this dance

Hira smiled: oh you don’t have to know this dance, just let the music move you

(And she turned her back to his chest and swayed)

Hira: and don’t worry, nothing you will do I will make fun of; you are free to be yourself with me 

Sanjay: so do you

Hira looked at him with a sad pout: I am not?

Sanjay: no, I don’t know you, and I don’t understand you, you are a closed book for me  

Hira smiled widely: then why you care for me so much, if you don’t know me?

Sanjay smiled: you are good and kind, and you are the most beautiful thing that happened to me, remember when I first met you, when you said you don’t have someone to care for you, I felt purpose in life, I wanted to be there for you, to protect you and care for you (then he shook his head) but that doesn’t change that I don’t know you

Hira’s smile vanished and looked at him then she chuckled

Hira: now I understand

And she suddenly turned to go but he held her and said with widened eyes

Sanjay: what? What do you understand?

Hira in Spanish: your feelings for me is need, my need to be cared for and your need to help a helpless girl like the girl you couldn’t save from the fire (then she put her hand on her chest) my feelings for you is what I don’t understand, I just feel it, beautiful and painful like you 

Sanjay frowned: Hira, I don’t understand what you are saying

Hira: I was saying I am not drunk enough

And she tried to walk again but was to fall, he supported her and she vomited, he held her hair till she finished

Hira: ah, I don’t feel well

Sanjay: I will have to take you home

He walked with her towards the door and she was barely conscious but awake enough to see Viola and Jagdev standing with each other near the door

Hira in low tone: no don’t hurt her, I don’t want their right, I don’t want a new plan

Sanjay: what new plan?

He said it as he walked out of the night and tried to stop a taxi, Hira put her head on Sanjay’s chest and closed her eyes, he carried her and a taxi stopped

In the mansion

Sanjay entered the mansion carrying Hira who was sleeping on his chest and Marie left her cup of tea and her eyes widened

Marie: what happened to her?

Sanjay: Later, ma; I will take her to her room first

Marie frowned: who is nursing whom, I don’t understand

Sanjay sighed and entered with Hira to the elevator then in the second floor opened her room, and put her on the bed and took her shoes off, then covered her with a sheet, Hira opened her eyes faintly and whispered

Hira: when you know me, I will lose you

Then she closed her eyes and turned, he looked at her sadly and caressed her hair

Sanjay: never
