Chapter 5

Chaya and the boys were hanging out on the patio when Rico, Alpha Dominik, and Elder Nova arrived. Alpha Dominik fixed his gaze on Chaya, then on the boys, apparently recognizing them as August Wolf. The boys stepped in front of her protectively. Nova offered a friendly smile, "Hold on, we're not here to cause any trouble." Raine scrutinized her, "How do we know that you're telling the truth?" Alpha Dominik nodded, understanding their suspicion. "I understand why you boys would be cautious. I can assure you that we are telling the truth." Dominik's lips curved into a grin when he saw them, their intimidating glares. He could sense their strength. What struck him was their mother. Despite her human form, she possessed immense power that was noticeable through her aura, and Bailey's unmistakable scent lingered in the air around her. Clearing his throat, Alpha Dominik spoke in a gentle voice, "We don't mean to cause you guys any harm. I'm Alpha Dominik, and this is Elder Nova." Reed raised an eyebrow, "Wait, why do you people have such strange names?" Chaya gave him a stern look, "Reed, that's not polite. Apologize right now!" He looked at them sheepishly and apologized. "Alright, boys, Mommy needs to speak to Mr. Rico. You behave yourselves," she said firmly. "Yes, Mommy," they replied in unison. She walked into the lounge with them. Dominik was observing her. Rico told them what had transpired, and he suspected the pups belonged to Bailey. Nova looked at her and said, "Please try to remain calm," she nodded to show her understanding. Nova then began to explain to her the concept of werewolf shifters and alphas. She informed her that the boys were of alpha blood, "She asked nervously, "Why were those... creatures after my boys?" "It looks like they must have sensed they were alpha pups. Would you like to tell us about their father?" Merely the mention of him sent her into a state of panic. "Chaya, take a deep breath." She got to her feet, "I need..." Nova was right there with her, embracing her tightly. "Shhh, my darling. He can't hurt you anymore." Chaya was crying uncontrollably. Nova glanced at them, then said, "Let's talk about this later. I heard from Rico about the colour of your eyes." Chaya wiped away her tears and asked, "What's wrong with me?" Nova turned to Alpha Dominik for permission to discuss the matter. She squeezed her hands gently. "We can talk about it another time if you like." She nodded, her hands still shaking. "We think you were bitten—were you by any chance feeling unwell afterwards?" she nodded again, "yes, I thought it might have been because of the pregnancy." she was biting her nails, clearly overwhelmed by the conversation. There was an uncomfortable silence, causing her to become even more anxious. "Do you want to take a break and go check on the kids?" Nova asked, giving her a supportive look. She left the room. Dominik's wolf was getting stirred inside him as he heard her response and the mention of the incident. Nova sensed his rising agitation and mind linked him, 'Alpha, please, stay calm. She can't handle another outburst.' 'I am sorry. Thinking about it...' 'We just need to keep our composure for now.' She returned and offered them a selection of finger foods. "Sorry, I forgot to..." "It's ok, my sweetie." Both Dominik and Rico were munching away. "Oh my, I thought I would never get..." Rico smirked, "See, Alpha, only her pastries are the best. We tried them all, but none were the same as hers." She smiled, "Thank you."
