Chapter 03: The Alpha King

2075 Words
"It's the Alpha King." Eh? I stared at Everlee for a moment and eventually let out a horrid chortle. "You should stop joking me like that, Everlee. That is not a nice joke. You know that I like Cyrus with all my heart, so you don't have the right to steal him from me," I replied back and sat down on her bed in an Indian-style position. "I am not lying, Aquilla. I do love him. I really really do," she insisted. This time, I don't see a smile on her face. All I can perceive is that all she is saying is true. I looked down and pressed my lips together. I don't know what I should feel. I can't possibly get mad at her for falling for Cyrus. I mean, who doesn't fall for him? "All right. I can't get mad at you for that, Everlee. I don't want both of us quarreling just because of one guy. But I feel so betrayed. Why did you only tell me this now?" "Because I didn't want to hurt you. I know how much you adore Cyrus, so I kept it to myself. And Cyrus..." She halted speaking. I don't know why my heart is pounding so fast and hard. Why am I being so anxious? "He confessed to me. He loves me too, Aquilla." I sniggered in disbelief. "That is a very consequential claim, Everlee. I don't want that anymore." "I am not lying. We were in a relationship for a year." I couldn't take this anymore. "Good night, Everlee. I had too much," I stated and walked away. I know Everlee. She wouldn't lie about something like this, and her expression tells it so. Cyrus and Everlee... I can't believe it. ... The next day, we opted to pick up my dress for the auction night. I decided to have mom as my chaperone because I don't feel comfortable with Everlee just yet. After what I discovered about her last night, I don't think I could look at her in her eyes for a while. Mom bought me an elegant white dress that isn't very flamboyant. It's simple and has the right amount of ornaments and jewels, just how I like it. As I tried the dress on, it fitted me perfectly. The dress has ruffles on the ends of the sleeves and at the hem. It wasn't too long, so it was about the level of my knees. I scrutinized my reflection in the mirror. My whole self was reflected, and I loved how I could peer at my entire body. The dress hugged my curves so impeccably. I wasn't fully aware that I have large breasts, not until I saw my reflection. My cleavage was slightly revealed, and I smiled as I opened my palms and grasped my breasts. "Is this mine?" I muttered to myself. I moved closer to the mirror and stared at my face. I have an almond-shaped face with an outlined jaw. My eyes are a bit greyish and round, and my hair is soft brown and long. It reaches my waist. I am not that tall, but my height is commendable for my age. My skin isn't too clear like Everlee's because I have acne from puberty. The color of my skin is paler than everyone in my family. It's as if I don't have blood running through my veins. I smiled at myself with my plump lips and winked. Honestly, I don't look that bad. It's just that Everlee is a goddess who stands out very much; that's why I am covered by her shadow. "I didn't know you had great curves, Aquilla. You always wore oversized shirts and jogging pants, so I never saw your body shape. You really are a grown-up," mom complimented as soon as I got out of the fitting room. "Me either." I smiled and posed while placing both my hands on my waist as if I was in a pageant. Mom laughed at me and signaled to me that she approved my appearance and that I should go back and change. After we shopped for my dress, we went to a nearby shop to buy sandals. I told mom we shouldn't waste too much money just for this auction, but she told me it might be the last time she would spend money on me. She's right. If ever someone bids for me in the auction, I would stay with my bidder and would barely see my family anymore. It's starting to make me change my mind again. I can't live without them. While we were picking sandals, I saw an elegant white sandal that fitted me and my dress perfectly! It had a few diamonds decorated on it, and it was just as simple as what I wanted. I immediately ran towards it and grabbed it; however, another hand also landed on the sandal. It was a hand of a guy because it was enormous and veiny. In an instant, I raised my head and looked at whoever this guy was. He is tall. Tall. As soon as I saw his handsome face, his pair of ocean blue eyes, his sharp jaw, his tiny and pointed nose that is shaped like a heart, his beguiling sweet scent, his broad shoulders, and muscular body, I immediately knew who he was. The only one I adore. "A-alpha—" "You can have it," he immediately replied in a profound and frigid tone. Even his voice sounded so dreamy. His hands left the sandal and turned away as he went back to his bodyguards. The pounding of my heart is so loud and strong that it might cause me death instantly. I met him again, the Alpha King, Cyrus Maverick, the only one I laid my eyes upon. "Have you chosen already?" mom asked as she approached my direction. She stared at me in a confused manner. "Mom, I just saw Cyrus," I mumbled while still in awe about how close our proximity was a while back. "The Alpha King?" I nodded my head and turned my eyes to the sandals which I was still holding. Cyrus also held this. "We're buying this, mom." ... It's the day of the auction. I didn't know time flew so fast. Everlee and I haven't spoken to each other yet since that night she told me about her and Cyrus. I know she wanted to talk to me so bad, but I avoided her by every means I could. Maybe after the auction, if ever we get the chance to speak, I will be willing to talk to her. "Be confident, Aquilla. You are so beautiful. I'm sure those Alphas will fight over you," dad uttered. We both laughed. He's being ridiculous! "That's presumptuous. I doubt anyone would even notice me. There will be lots of gorgeous females in that auction as well," I mumbled and frowned. "I'm afraid I would end up living a miserable life, dad." Dad immediately pulled me for a hug and caressed my hair gently and slowly. "You won't, Aquilla." We traveled to the royal castle as soon as we finished preparing ourselves. I was nervous and terrified of what could happen. But mom told me that worrying would just make me suffer even more. The castle is too enormous and elegant. Gold, marble, silver, and diamond elements were plastered everywhere. As we entered the entrance, a female knight walked toward me and handed me a number. "That's your lot number," she said and went back inside the castle immediately. "Number seven. That is a lucky one," dad mumbled in my ear. I hope so. I really hope I end up being lucky for tonight's auction. If ever I get the chance to be a luna of any of these alphas, it will not only benefit me but also my family. I gazed my eyes all over the castle hall and immediately saw the Alpha King looking at me—no. He is looking at someone behind me. His eyes are on Everlee. ... Cyrus's Point of View "Everlee," I muttered as I saw her standing at the entrance. She is as beautiful as ever. I held a tight grip on my goblet of vodka and took another sip. The auction hasn't even begun yet, but I'm starting to feel dizzy and tipsy. What a shame. Maybe I should just leave. Besides, I don't really plan on bidding over any of the ladies. I don't need a luna if it isn't Everlee. She is the only one I want to marry. Last month, she broke up with me because she told me she couldn't keep our relationship going. The moment I was about to propose her marriage, she dumped me, and I was the most heartbroken being in the whole of Devas. I don't see myself loving anyone but her. My first love, Everlee Calliope. After drinking another glass of vodka, I raised my head and looked at the stage. It's finally starting... "THE 24TH AUCTION HAS COMMENCED!" The past auctions were different from now. Tonight, the auctioneers here are all Alphas. In the past years, anyone, as long as they're rich and prominent, can be a bidder. I'm only here to spectate. I don't want any lady standing on that stage to be my property. The lot numbers were called one by one as the only light in this whole hall was focused solely on whoever stood up on the stage. No one caught my eyes. None of them are beautiful enough to suit my liking. I slowly turned my head to where Everlee was sitting. Even her back looks so precious and lovely. I want to sit beside her and feel her heart pounding against mine. I want to look at her round black eyes and play with her ginger hair. I want her. I want her to be mine once more. "Number seven!" I diverted my languid eyes back to the stage as they announced the next omega. I squinted my eyes at her as I saw her eyes. I'm sure she looks very familiar — oh, yes, I met this lady yesterday at the shoe shop. Gray eyes... I drank everything in my goblet and took a deep breath. I'm already drunk enough. I can't go on with this auction anymore. "Anyone? Her name is Aquilla Calliope, the daughter of Mr. Bennie Calliope and Mrs. Amanda Calliope. She turned eighteen last week, and her wolf is a pure white one with golden eyes. Immediately, this Omega will be owned by the highest bidder." Could she be related to Everlee? Everlee never told me she had a sister, but I'm sure Amanda and Bennie are her parents. This omega... I can smell her strong and sweet pheromones fuming all over the place. She smells like strawberries and vanilla, ice cream, and honey. It's making my mind more insane. I looked at her again and peered at her whole body. I see she's wearing that sandal from yesterday, it fits her perfectly. She looks so... attractive. No—I'm just drunk. But there's really something strange about her gray eyes. Those eyes, did I meet her before? Even before I met her at the shoe shop? It couldn't be... "Five hundred dollars!" The Alpha of the Blue Moon pack offered his first bid. "One-thousand dollars!" uttered the Alpha of the Red Dawn pack. "Two-thousand dollars!" "Ten-thousand dollars!" The voices were blurring everything except Ms. Aquilla Calliope, standing on the stage while staring at me. Why is she looking at me? Her cute face was the only one I could stare at now, as everything was dark and blurry. Her gray eyes are sparkling luminously like stars. "One hundred thousand dollars!" I saw her before... "One-hundred and fifty thousand dollars!" She is... She... "Two-hundred thousand dollars!" I raised my right arm high as my head dropped down, and my eyes finally shut. I didn't know what was happening to me, but I'm certain I was all fuddled and drowsy. For the last time, I looked at her gray eyes once again and opened my mouth. "One billion dollars—" Everyone went silent. Momentarily, my ears were filled with sounds of claps and mutters from everyone in the hall. After that, I felt my whole body drop down on the cold floor of the hall and fell asleep.
