Time for the meeting

Lexa POV My jaw dropped when I saw Sawyer and Lucy coming out of the woods laughing and being all cute. I expected them to come back from the woods closer than they went in, but I definitely did not expect them to come back being all goofy with Lucy riding piggyback on Sawyer’s back. Clearly, this was the man for her if he was already getting her to loosen up and have fun with him. I looked over at Fred and saw him glowing with adoration and pride for his daughter. Of course, he wanted her to take over Alpha from him, but he really wanted her to learn to let go and to find her mate so she could be truly happy. As they approached us, Sawyer set Lucy down gently but grabbed her hand so that they were still touching in some way. “So you two are accepting each other as mates?” Fred said, raising his eyebrows at his daughter but never losing his smile. “Yes,” Lucy said with confidence. Sawyer was now grinning from ear to ear. “We are not going to mate and mark yet for a variety of reasons, but we are at least going to give it a shot. Someone reminded me that the Goddess does everything for a reason and that I should have more faith both in her and myself.” Lucy continued, shifting her gaze my way with a smile. Fred followed her gaze and gave me a nod. “Yes, sometimes we Alphas need our Betas to keep our heads straight and call us out on our bullshit.” We all laughed at that. “Welcome to the family Sawyer; I have to admit I’m pleased you are my daughter’s mate. Just make sure to take care of her or you’ll have the rage of an Alpha male coming after you.” He shook Sawyer’s hand and winked at him. “Don’t worry-hurting her would be like hurting myself. I will always take care of her.” Sawyer said, turning back to gaze at Lucy lovingly. “I know my Alpha is ready to get the meeting started, so shall we head inside?” He asked. We all turned and walked inside. Even though Lucy originally did not want a mate, I could already see how the support of one was making her stronger and a better Alpha. Between the two of us, we could keep her in check and make sure she focuses on the important things in life like family and friends, instead of getting lost in the duties of being an Alpha. I just hoped this meeting would go well. Lucy POV Sawyer let go of my hand and stood behind me beside Lexa as we entered the conference room after my father. All of the other Alphas and Betas and even some Lunas from all of the surrounding packs were already seated around the table waiting for our arrival. I’m not going to lie, seeing some of the Lunas in attendance raised my spirit a little bit and gave me the courage to give the greeting in place of my father. “Pack leaders, thank you for coming. While the circumstances for this gathering are not necessarily positive, I am still excited to see all of you together and for us to discuss and see what solutions we can come up with.” I began and then paused. Everyone in attendance nodded their heads in acknowledgment, so I kept going. “I must say, it is nice to see some Lunas here-you all have a critical role in the success of your packs, so it is only fitting that you attend meetings discussing such business.” I ended with a smile as my group approached our seats at one of the ends of the table. The three Lunas in attendance smiled and nodded to me in response to my comment. One of them, from the Green Lake pack, stood up and said, “We felt safe trying to take on more responsibility for our pack in your presence, Alpha Lucy. What you are fighting for and representing, we and our packs are behind you. Our attendance today symbolizes that and will continue to symbolize it in the future, as we plan on sticking around for a long time. We see you, and we support you.” She sat down, and her mate wrapped his arm around her shoulder and squeezed her, mumbling that he was so proud of her. He then turned to me and spoke. “I am Alpha Marcus of the Green Lake Pack, your closest neighbors, and this is my Luna, Renee. I wanted you to know that all of us Alphas here brought our Lunas and encouraged them to speak up because we support you too. We all want change and know that change will in part come from you. Just know that you have our support,” Marcus said sincerely. The other two Alphas introduced themselves and their Lunas; James and Kinslie from Dark Forrest, and Henry and Regina from Grey Lake. Their Betas were George and Milo, respectively. Then, of course, there was Alpha Sean from Crystal Moon, and his Beta, Charlotte. He did not bring his Luna, but the fact that he had a chosen female Beta spoke wonders to his support of my cause. The fourth Alpha and his Beta stood up and said, “I am Killian, Alpha of Black Stone, and this is my Beta, Heath. I did not bring my Luna because I have not found her yet, but I still wanted you to know that I have your back.” His Beta nodded in agreement and then they sat down. Tears pooled in my eyes. I couldn’t help it. I knew my own pack supported me, but it really helped my morale to see that other packs supported me as well, so much so that they had brought their Lunas to an Alpha meeting and encouraged them to speak up. “I can not thank you all enough for your support. It means the world knowing that there are others out there wanting change and believing in me to make that difference. I support you all as well as if you try to make changes in your own packs and encourage you Lunas to speak up as much as you see fit-you all have valuable input as well…” I had to stop speaking because if I had continued I would have started bawling and that would not have been productive at all. “Yes, let us get back to the task at hand. Does everyone know why we have gathered here today?” My father jumped in, saving me from embarrassment. Lexa stood and said, “We are meeting because humans are being killed in nearby towns, and it is rumored that wolves are the culprit. We need to discuss if it is any of our pack members or rogues, and how to put a stop to it. Humans deserve better than this and we’ve sworn to keep them safe in exchange for living on their land.” I gave her a thumbs-up as she sat down. “Yes,” My father confirmed. “While the talk of change and support of my daughter as a female Alpha is also important, we have a more pressing task at hand, which is discussing the cause of all the humans being murdered and what to do about it. Shall we begin?” He asked, pulling out his notepad. I followed his lead and waited for someone to talk.
