Chapter 26Oscar looked up from the screen. A rattle came from the entranceway. The lock clicked, and the door creaked. That nurse walked in with the tray. Odd, he still didn’t know her name. She’d never told him, and he wasn’t about to ask. The big man with the stun gun followed her. She set her things on the bed stand. Oscar extended his arm out of habit. Her fingers probed his veins, all of them used by now and tender to touch. He winced. The man hovered behind her shoulder. “We should give you a port,” she said, “but not now. Let’s see the other arm.” He stretched it out. “Why take so little at a time?” “We’ll do it at the clinic.” He wondered what she meant by that. No point in asking, he didn’t want to know.
