It took me a while to process the words that flew out of Andrew's mouth. I was sure I heard correctly, but there's nothing wrong with checking if i heard right.
"What?"
"Have lunch with me" He repeated casually, like it was nothing. One of the many things about Andrew that I find fascinating and mysterious at the same time is the way he could hide his emotions and expressions. With all the times I spent with him, I wasn't able to read his mind just by staring. It was stressful, mainly because I didn't know what his thoughts were when he was alone and quiet or the emotions that lied behind his words. He was always calm and casual about everything he did, even when he was lying. The only way I was able decipher the emotions from his words was the way my heart felt when he uttered them.
And right now, my heart was skipping few necessary beats. "Lunch?"
"Yeah. You're heading to the cafeteria aren't you. Why don't you have lunch with me?"
I glanced around, one thing I was certain about was that I was lost and the other, was that I was hungry and here in front of me was an option to solve both problems. The other problem was whether or not I should accept.
The phrase 'moving on' is something I'm trying to look forward to. It's hard. It has always being difficult to move on when it comes to Andrew. This isn't our first attempt to just be friends after a breakup and trust it's neither the second or third, but the thing about this one, was that the cause was hard to ignore and I was growing frustrated of the fact that he didn't find it necessary to trust in me.
Another thing was that we've been apart for five months. Normally, the time we spent apart were about 2 to 3weeks and on top of that I saw him almost everyday at school, so it was hard to move on when my other half was walking around looking like the god that he is, It wasn't easy for me to look past all the pain when my heart still race anytime he throws a glance at me.
But I thought it would be different. I thought, Time, would do the moving on for me. Five months was a new time space and not having him around me was the best way to carry on with my life, But as they say. Time heals. That saying took a turn for me. That night when we ran into each other, the feeling of pain, the sorrow, the sleepless nights, I spent crying on my pillow alone and regretting ever letting him back into my life were all gone, healed, due to this thing called 'Time' and my heart felt reborn and was now beating again.
Again, for him.
My Dad, My mom and Ava would all have their share in scolding and reprimanding me for what I just did, or let's say what I was doing. Right now, I was being lead out of Andrew's car after he pulled to a stop at the cafe he suggested for us to go have lunch at, a few miles away from the outskirts of the college.
Yes, I accepted the offer, somewhere in the middle of my monologue.
We sauntered towards the entrance continuing the long silence. Andrew walked few steps ahead and pulled the door open, stepping aside for me. My heart melted at the act.
It's the simple things.
"Thank you" The first words that has been uttered since 30 minutes. He nodded and I walked in, taking in the scent of chicken and fries. It was already making my mouth water and my stomach grumble. I could use some chicken burgers and fries with a large Coke and uh maybe try out their pastries and- maybe take a seat first. Yeah, that first.
We settled down on a booth with a large window view. I took my time straightened out my jeans and avoiding eye contact with Andrew.
"Hmm.. you love looking at your jeans don't you?" His voice questioned and my gaze shot up to him, but shifted quickly when his eyes were locked with mine.
"I love my jeans." Was what came out. Stupid!
"I've always known you prefer jeans, but didn't know you were sentimental about them."
My lips parted for a response, but was cut short by the waitress with her boobs popping out. Okay?
"Drew" She sang with a bright smile. My eyebrows shot up. She knows him? And then my gaze fell back to Andrew who was smiling back at her.
"Isabel" Of course, he knows her.
She tucked her hair behind her ears as she continued smiling.
"It's been a while. I haven't seen you around."
"Oh! I've been busy."
Oh great! I didn't know I came here to witness a reunion.
I squinted my eyes at him as I watched him take a good look at her.
"You're looking good" He complimented and I fought the urge to heave out my entire organs when she blushed intensely at it. Even I, who's crazy about him wouldn't even blush like that. I rolled my eyes at scene in front of me, I wasn't going to blame her fully, she doesn't know how conniving this 'gentleman' is.
"What can I get for you?"
"The usuals" He said. The usuals? He's been here a lot, I see. His eyes shifted to me. "What do you like to eat?"
And that when little miss sultry pants realized I was sitting opposite from him, on the same booth. Her eyes were like hand fans moving up and down.
"Oh! I didn't know you had company." Of course you didn't. I feigned a smile at her when hers ebbed away. How delightful.
"What can I get you?"
"A chicken burger and his usuals. And a large Coke, should Incase his 'usuals' doesn't have that."
"Of course." I deadpanned afterwards and she took her leave.
"You're quite hungry"
_______________
The waitress soon came back shortly after a while and placed our food on the table. Andrew's usuals were just large fries and a medium coke. I, on the other hand got that, a chicken burger and one extra Coke. So it was large size fries, a chicken burger and two Coke. A large and a medium. Just like I drew it.
My eyes were glued to everywhere but Andrew's. We were just having lunch and 80% of lunch comprises of food and eating, the rest 20% was based on what the participants wanted to do during that time and I wanted 100% to be based on only eating.
"So... do you wanna tell me why you got lost?" I froze. He's still on that?
"I wasn't lost." I stood firm on my lie.
He scoffed. "Bee, you don't fool me."
I reclined back, this time glaring into his insanely dazzling eyes. He was about to fish out the truth and i wasn't going to let that happen.
"What makes you think I could. I wasn't lost, I told I was on my way to the cafeteria and I decided to take the route"
"Yeah, right." He smiled at me and took a long sip of his coke. I pulled my gaze away from Him when my phone vibrated in my pocket.
I dug out my cellphone only to see the last person that should be calling me right now.
Ava
