Chapter 1
THE CALL SERIES BOOKS IN ORDER: Book 1 - Call of The Forest Book 2 - The Call of The Crescent Book 3 - The Call of The Huntress I let out a scream which could only be described as feral, something you would hear from a wild animal. The Hybrid baby was coming and I was sure this birth was more painful than the cubs. Riven stood to the one side, his hand on my head, encouraging words coming from his mouth; not that I heard them. All I was focused on was getting this baby out of me! Jake was on my other side, his hand in mine and I was almost sure that I would break his hand with the amount of squeezing I was doing. "It's going to be okay, Minx." I shot him a glare, but before I could scream any profanities his way my body was hit with another contraction. I cursed out, wondering why a Hybrid Spirit Wolf could feel any pain at all. Oh, right, I'm not dead yet. With another grunt and push, I immediately felt the relief of the baby slipping out. I was happy that the doctor was one of the Packs vets so I didn't have to explain why I had fangs jutting from my mouth, in my struggle of birth I couldn't have cared to keep them in. I dropped my head down onto the pillow, if I had breath in my lungs I was sure I would have passed out by now. Both Jake and Riven were at the vet's side in an instant. It had only been a few months since that fateful night of the Moon Ceremony, and I hadn't expected things to change so drastically, but they had. Jesse had been brought back to life by me, but he had still died that night, relinquishing the title of Hybrid King to Jake, who was loving the new status. Obviously, I had gained a new status that night as well; I had become the new Spirit Wolf. Due to me not being dead I was able to leave the Pack grounds and continue my life as I had previously, with a few adjustments of course. I had to be with the Packs at least once a month, and if anything went wrong I was expected to be there to fix what I could. I was also gifted with sight, which meant I would get important visions of things to come, some which could be stopped and some which couldn't. We of course still hadn't found Min yet, but she was still plotting, I knew this from a string of recent visions I had been getting that showed her in her state of witchcraft. It frustrated me that I was shown she was getting ready to strike again, yet I wasn't shown anything in regards to stopping her or even finding her for that matter. And of course, there had been some changes to my love life. Now that I was with both Jake and Riven, things had changed a lot. Masha and River were extremely happy to have both Jake and Riven in their lives as the norm, and I was quite impressed with the way the two men in my life handled sharing me so well. I had expected a lot more difficulty. We now lived together in a gorgeous home with my father staying in a quaint little cottage on the property. Of course, we had a few mishaps with jealousy at first, but as the time progressed Riven and Jake had formed a strong bond between them as well, almost as close as brothers. Watching the two of them staring at my new child reminded me of this, they both looked like equally proud fathers. Speaking of, the vet held up the scissors, "Who's cutting the cord?" To my surprise, the two of them cut it together. "Um, guys? I'm still the mom, did we have a girl or boy?" Jake lifted the baby from the vet's arms and came over to me, "We have a beautiful baby girl." I took her from him and stared mesmerized by her. She had skin as pale as porcelain, and her eyes mirrored the Hybrid colour that her father and I matched. A small tuft of dark hair was already on her head. "She looks like a doll," I remarked. "She does, and remember that she will grow at a quicker pace than most until she reaches the age of twenty-one. She will age in half the time." "Right, the lovely perks of being a Hybrid." Riven chuckled, joining us, "What will you call her?" "I like Aida. Jake?" He nodded, "That's a beautiful name." Riven lovingly stroked a hand across my head and I briefly closed my eyes, enjoying the feel of his touch. "How are you feeling, baby?" I smiled, "Exhausted. I just want to have a good sleep before resuming our search for Min." Jake's eyes went from Aida to me, "Minx, you just gave birth, don't you think that can wait a while?" I shook my head, "No. Whatever she is planning is going to be big and we cannot waste any time. You know that she is planning to come after us, and we can't simply wait for her attack. We must be ready." Riven sighed, "She is right, Jake. As much as we want nothing more than to enjoy Aida's birth, we can't afford to be lenient. It could cost us lives." Jake gave him a pointed stare, "Trust you to take her side. The two of us can handle Min, she should be allowed to stay safe with the kids." I huffed, "Jake, stop that nonsense. You know very well that I can be a mother while taking care of this." "I know, but I would prefer if you were safe and out of harm's way." "I know that, Jake. But the both of you know very well that I am not going to sit back while everyone else does all the work. It's just not in me not to help. In any case, with me now being the wolf to watch over the Packs it's literally my duty to protect them." "Can the two of you stop arguing?" Riven reprimanded gruffly. I chuckled, the relationships I shared with the two couldn't be more different. Jake was soft and sensual whereas Riven was the dominating type. It was a rather nice balance if you asked me.
