25 One, two, three florescent lamps. Four, five, six. They passed overhead as she was being wheeled quickly through the grey halls. She could not see who was pushing and there was no sound. Where was she? A hospital...she could smell the cleaners, the alcohol, the passing of life to death. Everything was so bright under the bare lights, she wanted to ask what was going on but couldn't find her voice. The gurney suddenly stopped. She waited a moment then sat up slowly.
