29‘And that’s our little family,’ the night Nurse Unit manager concluded as the meeting broke up. Her staff grabbed their coats and bags and headed off down the dark corridors, and the new nurses spread through the ward and started about their tasks. Vince had arrived in the general medical ward to find the nightshift nurses just finishing their hand-over to the morning staff. ‘Morning, Doctor,’ said the morning shift manager, Ingrid—a jolly, experienced senior nurse, well known to Vince.
