Tigi starts the kitchen fire after the delicious dessert—strawberry roulade—is served. She escapes from the dining room table and decides to have a cigarillo at the kitchen window that overlooks Nassar Street, behind the building. No one really knows how the window’s sheers, a pretty baby pink linen and lace blend of high quality, ignites. A cat-like scream is heard, which is followed by Tigi yelling, “Someone help me! Fire, darlings! Fire!” The next few seconds becomes a blur for Jason and the other guests at the dinner party. A band of smoke exits the kitchen and enters the dining room like a ghost.
