“Tell me about the mate bond, how can you tell that someone is your mate?” I say, “The first sign is usually their sent before you even see them you notice a scent that’s alluring and draws you to them like in the clearing on the day I found you I picked up on the scent of sweet honeysuckle and jasmine and straight away Jet started going crazy and told me our mate was nearby that was around the same time my men heard something in the woods so I called them back and went to find you myself, if you think back over the time since there will be a scent that’s only there when I’m near that gets stronger the closer I am.” “Yes, coffee and chocolate” I answer “that’s my scent to you, how we smell to each other as mates is different to how we smell to others, the next sign is eye contact, the first time we make eye contact with our mate is a magical moment when we feel an instant and deep connection, after that is physical contact, how do you feel when I touch you or kiss you?” “It feels kind of warm and tingly sort of like little electric shocks going through me and it makes Celestia purr like a kitten” I tell him “it’s the same for me, those are sensations we will only get from each other, then finally we strengthen and seal the mate bond by mating and holding a mating ceremony but don’t worry we can wait until you are ready”. “So what is a mate? What does it mean to be a mate? Or have a mate?” I ask “ “a mate is a soulmate, someone you are destined to be with and is destined to be with you, they are the other half off your soul and heart and they complete you in a way nobody else could, to have a mate means to have someone who will always be there for you no matter what, to love you, care for you and protect you for the rest of your lives”. “So what would you expect from me as your mate?” Just for you to be loyal and honest and in time grow to love me and trust that I would never hurt you or allow anyone else to, normally we instantly fall in love with our mate when we meet them but I understand that you need time after what you have been through”. “Do people always fall in love immediately when they meet their mate?” “Most of the time, yes, their have been times when someone has rejected their mate, this can be for different reasons like they don’t feel the connection or don’t want a mate but it is very painful for the rejected mate both physically and emotionally” “what happens to the rejected mate? Will they get another mate?” I have heard of some who get a second chance mate but it is very rare, I have also heard of some who have gone crazy or even died from the pain of the rejection”.

He is looking at me with a worried expression now and Celestia’s ears have perked up also seeming worried as I think over what Theo has just said. “Please don’t reject mate, I promise he isn’t like father, we can be happy” Celestia says solemnly, “I don’t want to reject him” I tell her, “especially after what he just said could happen to him but how can I be sure, he seems nice and has been gentle and caring so far but how do I know it will last” “I know you are worried but please trust me, we are getting stronger now and we will soon be able to realise our full potential” what do you mean?” You will see soon, just please give him a chance, he will help us and we will be stronger with him by our side”. “Where you talking to Celestia?” Theo asks “yes, she asked me to give you a chance and not reject you” “ok” he says cautiously, sounding worried “and what do you want to do?” I think for a moment “I, I don’t want to reject you especially after what you just told me” he gives out a sigh of relief and smiles at me, “I’m glad to hear that” he says, “but I’m scared, I know you have been nothing but kind to me but how can I be sure it will last, how do I know you won’t become the same if I let you in” he slowly slides closer to me on the sofa until he is right beside me, turned so that he is facing me, I look at him concerned, not sure what he is going to do, he gently takes my hand in his, looks into my eyes and says “I promise you Summer I am not like your father and brothers and never will be, you will never have to go through any of that or live in fear again as long as their is breath in my body and I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to prove that to you, ok?” “O-ok” I say as tears start to slide down my cheeks, “oh, sweetheart, come here he says as he gently raps his arms around me and I sob into his chest, he moves one arm from around me, slides it under my legs, picks me up and sits me on his lap then adjusts us so we are lay across the sofa with me lay sideways on top of him and just holds me while I cry. I’m not sure how long we lay like that but I end up crying myself to sleep.

When I wake up still lay on top of Theo I can feel his t-shirt is still damp from my tears, I open my eyes but don’t attempt to move yet, this feels nice, Theo is so warm and comfortable and I have never felt like this before, he has one arm around my back with his hand on my waist and the other hand on the side of my thigh, I lay there looking around the room without moving and thinking about the conversation we had before when I hear Theo say with a soft and gentle voice “are you awake?” Oh s**t he knows I’m awake, I think to myself, “y-yes, sorry” I say as I start trying to sit up, “it’s ok” he says “you don’t have to get up, unless you want to, I have enjoyed laying here with you like this” “you have?” I ask “yes of course I have, I have been wanting to hold you since the moment I first saw you but was waiting until you were ready, how was it for you? Did you enjoy your nap?” “Yes I did, thank you, it was relaxing I can’t remember the last time I felt so relaxed and comfortable and at peace, I don’t think I ever have ”. “That is the mate bond helping you feel like that” he says “it’s nice, thank you” “you’re welcome sweetheart, anytime. Does this mean that you are happy to give me a chance then?” He asks, “yes, I will try to but can we take things slow? “Of course we can go a slow as you need, one step at a time, baby” he says then kisses the top of my head.
