The driver announces, “We’re almost at the Incirlik Air Base. Just a reminder: you’re safe in the American sector, but please do not wander. Your flight leaves at 17:00. We’ll board at 16:30.”
Margaret notices that Ivan appears troubled. “What’s the matter?”
“I’m wondering about talking with President Ozdemir. He might expect a call from me.”
“Maybe Col. Aydin can arrange for an electronic meeting.”
“Video conference—that’s a good idea. I’ll text him now to request the remote meeting with Ozdemir.”
“Should I join you?”
Ivan smiles. “I hadn’t thought of that. It might prove helpful. He may not trust either of us, but he’ll understand that our two countries will work together to resolve the Syrian war. That will speak volumes, and he’ll want to be part of the effort.”
