As Corrine promised her men left the villa very early to go to the LICB offices, she still felt very angry about the incident so she decided to leave so early to avoid talking about the attempted k********g and subsequent salvation with Lionel and Elsa.
As he drove into town Corrine thought about the attack they had suffered and the reasons why the kidnappers only wanted to take Elsa, she didn’t find it very convincing that a man like Larson brought a girl to the villa whom he didn’t know much stuff, he wasn’t the flirtatious type of man who intended to take every girl he met to bed, or at least that was what he had shown himself to be during the months they had lived together in the same house. Corrine was sure that the girl must be someone important to him or Blackwing, Elsa turned out to be another puzzle in Corrine's investigation. She had been thinking about the whole incident for so long that she didn’t know when she arrived at the LICB offices.
"Athena, it’s a pleasure to have you here again". Said one of the agents in charge of guarding the LICB entrance.
"Thank you, agent".
"Athena, the President said that as soon as you got there you should immediately call him".
"Of course, agent, immediately I’m going to do it". Corrine wasn’t quite sure why she should call the President; he wasn’t used to requiring her.
Once she entered her office, he asked his secretary to contact the president's office.
"Good afternoon, Mr. President".
"Hi Athena, I appreciate you calling so soon".
"I came as soon as the agent gave me the warning, Mr. President".
"How are you Athena? How's the mission going?”. Were the two questions the President asked Corrine.
"I’m still an infiltrator, it’s a complex mission for which I cannot take any wrong steps".
"You're right, but don't you think you're going too slow?".
"I work with what I have, Mr. President".
"I understand you Athena but I want you to look at those images that I send you". Said the President.
"It’s very hard".
"No Athena, the images aren’t hard enough as you say, those images show that we’re losing the battle, Blackwing attacks us more and more frequently and we haven’t been able to hit them, and you come to tell me that you need time. Every second that passes we lose more men and what is worse, the confidence of the citizens”.
The President said a little angry at Corrine's results.
"I understand what is happening, Mr. President, but you must bear in mind that it’s better to have a lead and work on it than to have nothing to act impulsively". Corrine was justified.
"The truth doesn’t matter to me if there’s one or there are a thousand clues, I want results, citizens want results. I warn you Athena if there are no results I'm afraid you will have to step aside and let someone else continue the mission. You can withdraw".
"But Mr. President ...". Corrine was trying to give another explanation.
"I don't want any more excuses Athena, if you want to talk to me again, bring me results, otherwise I don't want to hear you anymore".
"As you order, Mr. President, permission".
Corrine hangs out the phone very disappointed at the new warning she had been given, this time she was close to losing her job.
When the call ends, she was received by her trusted agent.
"Athena, we’re happy to see you again".
"Thank you, Agent, did you gather the men?"
"Yes agent, they will be waiting for you in half an hour in the auditorium".
"Thank you, agent, in the meantime, I'll be in my office". Corrine left for her office and shed a few tears she was very disappointed in her performance she didn’t know anything important about Blackwing and every day more LICB men died, she was beginning to think that Larson had nothing to do with that organization because, during the months of living together, he had never displayed any type of behavior related to the criminal activities of that criminal organization.
"Athena the agents are waiting for you".
"In a minute I'm going". Replied Corrine, who took the opportunity to put on a little makeup to hide her tears.
The agents were gathered in the main auditorium of the LICB office, they were quite a few agents and they were all waiting for what their boss would tell them.
"Thank you, agents, for answering the call". Corrine said imposingly.
All the officers immediately stood up.
"You can sit down gentlemen". Said Corrine. "I know many of you are wondering the reasons for this meeting, and I want to tell you that you were the ones who forced me into this". The men were a little surprised at their boss's words.
“As some of you know, a few days ago some agents irresponsibly came looking for me on the pretext of saving me. And I say that they were irresponsible because they made a fuss at the point where I activated the signal".
"Boss but they almost killed you". Said one of the agents.
"That’s a lie, I’m infiltrated in a very important mission, you don’t know anything". Said Corrine, angered by the intervention of the agent.
"Sorry Athena".
"I think that none of you during your missions would like someone to hinder your plans or would you like to?".
"No boss".
"Then why did they do it to me? IT SEEMS THAT THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF OUR TRAINING HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN!”. Corrine screamed hysterically releasing all the frustration she felt. “Listen to me, officers, I order you not to interfere in my mission again, even if I'm dying or being tortured, understood?”.
"Yes Boss".
"You can withdraw gentlemen".
After giving that speech, Corrine returned to his office to investigate Elsa again. After a few minutes, his trusted agent returned.
"Athena can I ask you something?". Said the agent.
"Go ahead agent, what's going on?".
"I don't know if you're going to be mad at what I'm going to tell you, but it seemed to me that the day the agents saved you, you were really in danger".
Corrine looked the agent in the eye, somehow she needed to let off steam with someone, yet she couldn't give her arm to twist.
"You may be an agent, but that doesn’t give you the right to interfere in my mission, you must analyze the situation, you’re trained agents, not just cops who shoot at everything that moves".
"I understand Athena, but sometimes you don't have to risk as much".
"Agent, believe me, I know to what extent I should take the risk, that day was controlled despite the images saying otherwise".
"Okay Athena, you have to be more careful we don't want anything to happen to you, you’re a great leader".
"Thank you, agent, excuse me for having yelled at you so loud, I was very excited with all that situation".
"Don't worry boss, I know that these screams are part of the trade, in any job I can receive screams". Said the agent jokingly.
"Don't worry so much about me, I know this is a somewhat delicate mission but nothing impossible to achieve".
"I know Athena, but there are rumors that we’re getting closer to being downed by Blackwing".
"Those are just rumors agent, nothing to worry about, we must continue to fulfill our mission. As for me, you know that I’ll be fine being with that man Larson, I know that I’m not in any kind of danger. Trust me".
The agent left a bit puzzled by what he had just heard, however, he didn’t continue asking Corrine more questions.
