Chapter 1 Sonia's pov What I see takes me by surprise. A woman with long dark hair and a slender figure is draped across my husband, Marcus. She turns to face me, her piercing blue eyes staring into mine. Her expression was eerily blank. No hint of guilt or concern showed across her face. Her presence seems to fill the entire room making it hard for me to breathe. I stand there, everything seems like it's melting into chaos. The air so thick with an unsettling silence, like a heavy blanket, has been laid over everything. My chest throbs, the rhythm pounding in my ears clearly but everything else seems distant, foggy. My feet were rooted to the spot, I couldn't say a word , it felt like my voice was caught in my throat like a wild human struggling to break free. Feeling numb, my eyes fix on the scene before me, waiting for someone to explain what was happening. “Are you just going to stand there staring, or are you waiting for an explanation?” he sneered, shaking his head.” I stare at him in disgust. “Fine, if you won’t say anything, I will. She is my mistress, sonia. She's been taking care of me while you've been too busy,” Marcus confessed , without a hint of remorse in his voice. “Too busy? I repeated. You mean too busy trying to make this marriage work?" “What marriage? you've never even attempted to bear a child, Sonia. But Vivian here, she's been pregnant before. She knows what it means to be a real woman, Sonia. He said, his voice harsh and thick with mockery. Marcus's words cut through me, causing my jaw to drop. I'd never been so choked by words in my life. His words hit me like a blow, heavy and overwhelming. “ How could be so cruel to his wife? Did he even realize how cruel he was, trying to keep my emotions in check. But it was no use. I couldn't believe that Marcus had been cheating on me for so long, long enough to get another woman pregnant. The thought made me feel nauseous. “Sophia lost her child due to complications. Marcus continues, his voice cold and detached. At least she's given me hope that I might one day be a father.” “So you're blaming me for your infidelity?” “I'm being blunt, Sonia. You had chances to make me a happy man, but you failed.” “You abruptly refused to sell off your father's company, you prioritize your business over our relationship. Marcus' expression turned bitter. What kind of wife does that?” Feeling a need to be defensive. He was crossing every boundary with his words. How dare he say those mean words to his wife. “That's not true,” I protested. His brow raised “Really? Why do you spend every waking moment at the office? you haven't been truly committed to our relationship. My eyes filled with tears, and I wasn't sure I could hold them back for long. I was losing it but I had to compose. My chest tightened up, while gasping for air. And then, Marcus turned to his mistress and said, "Let's go." Rubbing salt to my wound. Sophia gave a smile: like things were beginning to get interesting for her, “Okay” she nodded. They both turned and walked out of the room together, slamming the door behind them. The sound echoing through the silence. Tears streamed down my face as I stood there unable to move. “How did Marcus suddenly change,” I thought. I fell to the ground with my knees, as I poured out the rage of tears I've been holding. surrounded by memories of our life together, I sobbed about how Marcus had thrown it all away by cheating. Our wedding day vow, our laughter, my undying love for him, it all seems futile now. “You promised, that nothing will come between us, Marcus. I wailed. But then, You lied.” We had bought and designed our home, room by room, adorning the walls with our wedding pictures, just the way we loved it. And he dares to bring a w***e to our house. He's got balls. I turned to look at our bed as I thought about the countless nights we had made love on that bed, now the bed we slept together for years now feels tainted. “My Marcus wouldn't hurt me like this, would he?” “He wouldn't do this to us” I cried trying to get hold of reality and hope that it was a dream. My body shook with sobs as I remembered how that woman was on top of Marcus a while ago. I thought about calling my friend, Emily as I kept sobbing. I just need someone to talk to, someone to share my mess with, before I lose my mind. With shaky hands, I dialed Emily's number. She picked but I couldn't say a thing, I could only hear cracks coming from my throat. “Sonia, what's wrong?” she asked, her voice full with concern. “I…”I tried to explain, but the words caught up in my throat. “Where are you?” “I'm home.” I managed to force out two words. “I'll be on my way.” “Sonia, please stay calm,” She assured me. The call ended. Emily was more than just a friend to me; she is a confidante, a partner, my source of support and more. We've been through thick and thin and we've survived through together. Still on the floor, sobbing and staring at the room. Our cherished memories now lay shattered around me. The image of another woman on the same bed I shared with Marcus kept replaying in my mind. It was a scene I had only ever seen in movies, but now I was living it. The intensity was suffocating. Now I couldn't shake off the feeling that I had failed Marcus. somehow, my mind was filled with self-blame that I wasn't enough for him. My inability to give him a child drove him into another woman's arms. Each thought was painful. I sobbed uncontrollably, my mind racing with thoughts of what I should have done differently. “This is all my fault, and I'll have to correct it.” Few minutes later I hear a soft knock on the door. A gentle tap, I could bet it was Emily; I know the way she knocks. I didn't have the strength to get up and open it, “she will,” I thought. She pushes the door open as she scans the room, she turns to stare at me. Her expression snaps immediately from concern to shock, she rushes to my side. “Sonia, what happened?” she asked, her voice filled with worry. “It's… Marcus.”., I couldn't talk as tears rolled down my face “Wait, I'll be right back!” She quickly rushed to the kitchen and came with a glass of water. I gulped it down immediately. “Sonia, did something happen to Marcus?” I shake my head no and then I look her in the eyes as more tears flowed down my face. “I.. lost him to a slut” As I spoke, my voice cracked, and a fresh wave of tears streamed down my face. “What do you mean you lost him to a slut?” I wiped my tears trying to explain to her what went down, the secret about Marcus' mistress, her lost pregnancy and the blame of Marcus Infidelity. Before I could finish explaining her face twisted into so much frown, her eyes dimmed as she clenched her fists. I've never seen my friend this angry since I've known her. “How dare he do that” “He has to pay for making you cry like this.” “Divorce him, Sonia. He doesn't deserve you.” I shake my head vigorously, No! No! You know I love him Emily, What about my company? My reputation? Everything will be ruined.” “Making such decision won't be so easy.” Emily's expression softens, and she wraps her arms around me. “I understand it will take a lot from you” "We'll get through this, Sonia. But first, we need to decide on what to do next." “I just need to get him back, " I said, sobbing. Emily's eyes narrowed, “You can't sit here crying all day, you need to get back on your feet” “I can't help myself right now, I feel weak.” A sudden silence stirred after that, then she suddenly broke the silence. “You said he complained about having a child and your devotion to the company, right? Yes, I know this is all my fault. “No No. Everything going on is not your fault. Sonia, I just need you to stay calm, we'll fix this together.” She assured me. “How Emily” Do you want to get your Marcus back? “Of course, at all cost Emily. I'm serious! I'll do all it takes to get my husband back. I can't risk it Emily, Our reputation and marriage is at stake.” “Good. Emily nodded as she continued, then we've got a plan. Stand up!”
