Claire's POV
On my way out I meet Stephanie who seems more than happy to see me.
She notices my tense mood and looks behind me at Arthur.
"Are you okay?" She asks with her hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah I'm good." I nod at her smiling but she keeps looking back.
"He's still staring isn't he?" I ask and Stephanie chuckles.
"Yep, let's get you out of here. You owe me some coffee." She says and I exhale more relieved than I have ever been.
Stephanie drives us into Wolf city and parks in front of a huge coffee shop.
"This place serves the best coffee. I promise you'll love it." She states smiling as I follow her in.
The interior of the shop is nice and homey and I can't help but stare at the baked goods on the counter.
They look so yummy.
Geez when was the last time I had my favorite baked goodies.
"Let's sit here." Stephanie gestures to a nice looking booth by the glass window and I nod before we take our seats.
I suddenly realized how almost empty the place looks and I look around surprised.
"Don't be surprised." Stephanie grabs my attention.
"They do sell the best coffee but let's not forget this city belongs mostly to werewolves." She answers my question and I nod.
We werewolves don't need caffeine like humans do.
Someone comes and takes our orders and I order a latte with some pancakes since I skipped breakfast this morning Stephanie orders too and the waitress leaves.
"Arthur must really intimidate you." Stephanie says out of nowhere and I instantly shake my head.
"He's more provocative."
"And pretty arrogant." Stephanie adds and I chuckle.
"I understand you. Growing up in the castle with him when he used to visit, I remember him being very bossy."
"Well his reputation still precedes him." I say and Stephanie laughs.
"He can be very annoying and arrogant but I'm sure you'll get used to him."
"I do hope so." I add with a smile and our food arrives.
I decide to taste the coffee first and my eyes widen with realization.
"See, I told you you would love it." Stephanie says before taking a sip of her own.
"You said he used to visit when you were kids? Why? I mean he's royal blood. Didn't they all live in the castle?" Stephanie nods at my question.
"Yes, they did, but by the time I came around Elric who is Ethan's uncle decided to move out." I nod at her.
"I later realized it's because he didn't see eye to eye with them." I nod again before taking a bite out of my pancake.
"You know Ethan and Arthur used to be very close growing up." She states and my jaw hits the floor.
"You're kidding right, they hate each other's guts. What happened?" Stephanie chuckles at my statement.
"They grew up and I think Arthur took some of his father's hate, then there was the fight for the throne." I stop eating and exhale hard.
All of this because Ethan was different. He must have really been through a lot.
"But enough about them, and enough about boys. Let's get to know each other. I'm sure it will help us in the long run." Stephanie says with her hand over mine on the table and I stare into her eyes unusually longer than usual.
I quickly shake my head and smile at her as she smiles back.
"So what's the story behind that bracelet?" She says and I immediately pull back my hand.
I look into her eyes again and I somehow feel deep down that I should tell her the truth about what I am.
I mean it could help so she could get another vision quick, but another part of me strongly tells me not to.
""Oh this, it's nothing much. It's just a gift from my best friend, she's called Trina." I lie but Stephanie continues to smile at me.
"It's kinda pretty, I'm attracted to it." She says and we both chuckle.
"And what's it like where you're from?" She questions again and I take a sip of my coffee before realizing it is done.
We order another round with cheesecake and the conversation continues.
I inform Stephanie about Blueville and how it runs but I don't really go deep into my family or my life.
Now it's my turn to grill her.
I don't want to ask her about her past because though I already know I'm sure it'll me traumatizing for her to recall.
"You said you are seeing someone." At that she almost blushes.
"Yes, why do you ask?" I shrug.
"Nothing much, I just want to know if he's a werewolf." She smiles then blushes at the end before leaning in closer taking me by surprise.
I also lean in to hear what she has to say.
"Don't tell the others, but yes, he is a werewolf." I smile not totally surprised.
"But why don't you want the others to know?" I ask chuckling and she frowns.
"I told them I'll never date a werewolf because of them. If they find out I'm done for." She leans back into her seat and I laugh causing her to also join in.
We exit the coffee shop late afternoon and are now driving back to the castle.
"I never really said thank you for saving me from Arthur, and you did it again this morning so thank you." I say as the car pulls up at the castle.
"It's nothing, in fact you've already paid me with a nice coffee conversation." I smile as we get down.
I can't believe I doubted this woman now.
Clearly I was over reacting.
"It was nice getting to know you. I hope we can do this another time, especially the boy gossip part." She whispers her last statement and I chuckle.
We get to the entrance and we meet Logan with an angry expression on his face mostly directed at me.
Uh oh.
What did I do now?
