Childhood friend

1411 Words
I find a beautiful blonde woman in Ethan's chair looking around elegantly and acting like she's the queen of the place. I get out of the haze and close the door loudly behind me then clear my throat to make my presence more clear and known. She quickly gets off Ethan's chair and looks at me embarrassed. "I thought I locked the door." She whispers to herself before moving away from the desk. I stare at her perplexed until she walks towards me suddenly looking bold and confident. She gets close enough and stops with a small smile on her face. I take in her beautiful blue eyes and slender body whilst waiting for an explanation. "Sorry about that, you weren't supposed to see that." She finally speaks and I nod. "Okay, and you are?" I ask and her smile widens "Steph? Stephanie?" I hear Ethan's voice from behind before he rushes pass me towards the blonde. I'm not surprised when he walks pass me as if I wasn't in the room but I'm totally surprised when they both hug and the Stephanie woman smiles ear to ear. Okay, I think I missed something. "You're back. Did Maa call you?" Ethan asks and Stephanie shakes her head. "No. I came on my own accord." She replies and Ethan nods and I find myself annoyed at their intimacy right in front of me. "You didn't tell me you've brought a guest." Stephanie says referring to me and it's as if Ethan finally remembers I'm in the room. He smiles and walks over to me. He kisses me on the forehead before giving me a side hug and Stephanie looks at us perplexed. "Stephanie, meet Claire Andrews. My mate." I don't know why but I find myself smiling for once that he called me his mate, and it's when it's in front of another woman. Stephanie suddenly smiles to my surprise and claps her hands together in some sort of excitement. "Claire, this is Stephanie, the seer we talked about, and also my childhood friend." Childhood friend, huh. Stephanie moves closer to us and offers her hand to me. "I'm so glad to finally meet you." I shake her hand then watch her smiling face with mine. "Ethan has really told us a lot about you." She adds and I look at Ethan. "Really, he didn't tell me anything about you or a kingdom." I chuckle and Ethan smiles guilty. "You'll make it to dinner right? Everyone has been waiting for you." Ethan asks and Stephanie nods. "Of course I'll make it." She smiles at him and I watch them closely and quietly. "I'm sorry I met you under such circumstances, but it was nice meeting you." Stephanie shakes my hand one last time before surprising me with a hug. "Bye." She says then walks out leaving Ethan and I. I instantly turn to look at him and he looks around confused. "Really? You want me to say it." I speak trying not to sound annoyed but he just shrugs. "Unbelievable." I exclaim angrily before grabbing my pamphlet then storming out. "Claire." He walks out after me then uses his superspeed to stand in my way. "I don't get it? Why are you angry?" He looks me in the eyes acting all clueless. "You forgot to tell me the part that you grew up with her." I look him straight in the eyes and he disappears for a second with a thinking look on his face. "You were told she's a family friend." He says and I instantly roll my eyes. "Family friend and childhood friend are completely two different things Ethan!" I yell at the end then move back taking in a deep breath. "Are you jealous?" He asks smiling. "Not even in your wildest dreams." I reply with a straight face then poke him on the chest. I walk away from him but he follows and I try very hard to keep my anger down. "Why were you even in the office in the first place. I thought you were going to shower." I turn to him with a questioning gaze. "I figured I could get my phone now so I wouldn't have to go back for it after dinner." He shows his phone to me whilst speaking and I roll my eyes. * * Dinner time arrives and we are all seated at the table except for the queen and Stephanie. The doors open and the queen walks in with Stephanie walking elegantly behind her. She's dressed beautifully in a blue fitting dress with a slit at the side. I notice all the guys looking at her except Ethan and that makes me a bit happy on the inside. We stand to greet the queen and Ethan helps her sit down. Stephanie walks to the other end to sit beside Lydia but the queen calls for her attention. "You'll be sitting next to me." Katherine says and Stephanie looks at her surprised. "Claire, can you please move over one seat to make space." I can't say I'm not surprised but I nod at the queen and move over. "Thank you." Stephanie smiles at Ethan after he helps her sit. I watch as she sits between Ethan and the queen and I contemplate on the sitting arrangements for a while. I mean why does the queen want Stephanie sitting between her and Ethan. "You okay?" A familiar voice whispers into my ears along with a gentle squeeze to my hand lying on my lap. I almost smile at Ethan but then I remember I'm annoyed at him so I roll my eyes a bit then look away. "I'm really glad you're back Stephanie. I was about to call you myself." The queen voices out as dinner is being served. "I guess I'm glad I came when I could your highness." She smiles politely. I somehow expect the queen to be like, "I told you you should call me Katherine." but it doesn't happen. I guess only Ethan and I can call her by her unofficial name. "Oh yes, I hope you've seen that beautiful lady sitting by my son there." Katherine points to me whilst still talking with Stephanie and I almost choke on the glass of water that I am drinking. Everyone looks at me worriedly most especially Ethan who rubs circles on my back. I cough like five times before I'm able to regain my composure. Lydia smiles at me and I turn my attention to the queen. "Yes your highness, we have already met in fact." Stephanie smiles at me and I smile right back at her so as to not raise any suspicion. "Well that's good then." The queen smiles and dinner goes on. Dinner ends and the queen is the first to get up. She bids everyone a goodnight sleep and calls for me before heading towards the door. "I won't be around in the next two days." She says to me and my eyes widen a bit. "I'll be back, but in the meantime, you know who you are around here. And continue to learn the pamphlet I gave you." I nod but I'm curious to know where she's going to. "When I come back we'll continue and I'll be taking your around with me." She smiles and pats me on the shoulder before walking away. Did she just leave me in charge? I look back and I find Ethan standing behind me. "It's a thing she does.A vampire thing." He smiles at the end and I nod now understanding. "So she needs blood?" "Yes, and some rest. She's getting old." I narrow my eyes at his last statement and he laughs. "Goodnight lovebirds." Logan says to us and we spot the whole group walking out. I smile as they exit the hall. I look back at Ethan and I find Stephanie standing a bit far from us. Ethan catches my gaze and traces it to Stephanie who smiles at us. "You go ahead. I'll join you in a bit." Ethan gives me a kiss on the forehead before walking over to Stephanie. I try my best not to look surprised but I'm sure my facial expression gives me away. Is it me or it seems like she steals his attention a bit? "Sure." I whisper more to myself since Ethan is already by her side. I turn away and exhale hard before walking out.
