A bad dream

926 Words
Claire's POV I wake up to a burning sensation on my wrist. I hold the glowing bracelet to my face and I see my wrist turning red. Without wasting anytime I rush to the washroom and turn on the tap at the sink. I place my wrist under the running water and exhale with relief as the water cools my skin and the burning stops. I massage my wrist with my other hand and close my eyes as more relief rushes over me. I snap my eyes open and the first thing I see is my reflection. I would have looked away any moment now except for the sinister smile I have on my face that I know very well isn't mine. I freeze at the spot and every sound around me dies down with only the sound of my racing heart increasing. The smile in the mirror widens and I stare at the darkness in those grey eyes that I sense wants to devour me. The mirror quickly shatters in my face with a loud shattering sound and I scream. I was able to shield my face a bit from the glass that flew towards me but I manage to get some cuts. I lie on the bathroom floor in utter terror when the door opens. Ethan stands at the door alert but worry crosses his face when he sees me on the floor. "Claire." He rushes over to me and cups my face whilst I stare at the shattered mirror. He traces my gaze then walks over to switch off the tap. He kneels down in front of me more worried than before and I find myself speechless. "Little wolf, what happened?" My attention slowly drifts unto him and realization hits me. I need to get away from him. I quickly stand up and rush out of the bathroom but knowing Ethan he follows me right out. "What's wrong? What happened?" He chases me with questions as I struggle to find some early morning clothes to wear. I find some workout set and I quickly put it on whilst grabbing a jacket. I head for the door but he holds me back. "What is going on? Where are you going in workout clothes?" He cups my face again and looks me in the eyes. His eyes widen a bit when I feel the cuts on my face healing. I grab both of his hands from my face and swallow hard at what I have to do. "I just need some fresh air." I smile weakly before rushing out. I run down the stairs and quickly rush out of the castle before Ethan can find and catch me. I don't know where I'm going but luckily the sun is now setting so I don't face any difficulty in choosing a path. I find myself heading towards the woods and I happily embrace it. I find a good hiding place for my clothes before I turn into my wolf to let Mia take over. I watch as Mia takes off fast in any direction and runs for about 15 mins before she finally stops to rest. She lays down and basks in the sun for a while until we hear a tree branch snap. I figured Ethan probably found us but when she turns around she sees no one. She just brushes it off as some harmless animal but that's when I sense something else in the atmosphere. Something heavy and dark, very dark. "We should head back." I suggest and she readily agrees. I transform back and put on my clothes before walking out of the woods. I don't know which entrance I take into the castle but that's not my main concern. My main concern is what just happened this morning. With my mind fixated I don't look where I'm heading but I luckily bump into Lydia. "Claire." She looks surprised and relieved at the same time to see me and I crease my forehead as she rushes over. "Where the hell did you take off to? Ethan is so worried about you." She says with utter seriousness and her expression sinks in. "Oh, I'm just coming from the woods." At that her eyes widen with concern and fear. "You're not supposed to go there. That place is off limits, people go missing there." Her words have me remembering the strange dark feeling I felt whilst I was in there. "It's okay, you're safe now, let's go inside." She says with an assuring smile but I shake my head. "Why?" She asks. "I don't want to go inside now." "Okay, I guess I'll mind link Ethan your whereabouts so he'll call off the search." "No!" I yell taking her by surprise. "Okay, but he has people out there looking for you. And I'm definitely sure he'll send them into the woods along with himself if he has to." I look at Lydia understanding the gravity of the situation. "Okay, just tell him you saw me, and I took a car into the city." She looks at me perplexed but nods anyway. Her eyes cloud over into a mind link and I sigh relieved. "Are you two fighting?" She asks and I instantly shake my head. The fear I had just this morning creeps into my spine and I shiver a bit. "Where do you guys train?" Lydia narrows her eyes at me all suspicious. I know I'm acting weird right now but I need some space to calm down and some time to think.
