Do you want to talk about it?“ Lydia asks the moment we step into the training room.
"There's nothing to talk about, we didn't fight.“ I reply whilst looking around the huge training room with numerous big floor mats and workout equipment.
"Well do you want to train?“ She looks at me smiling and I almost readily agree seeing that I need to let out some steam.
But on second thought, I could hurt her. The darkness may still be lurking around in me.
What makes me angry is the fact that I have to stay away from the people I love because of fear of hurting them.
It's all my fault. I shouldn't have taken off the bracelet in the first place, and now I have to deal with it.
"Okay, or we can workout on the treadmill." Lydia suggests another idea when I don't respond to the first one.
I nod at the second idea and we move to the treadmill.
We turn on the treadmill and I set mine to moderate.
"I saw you walk out of the dining hall last night." I look at Lydia.
"You didn't look too happy." She adds and I adjust the treadmill to flat running.
"Can I ask you something Lydia, and you must promise me not to tell anyone, especially Ethan." She slows down to my level looking at me curiously.
"Okay." She replies uncertain.
"Lydia." I tilt my head a bit.
"Okay fine, I won't tell anyone." I exhale hard and nod.
"What's Stephanie story? How did a seer end up in a castle full of werewolves?“ She doesn't look surprised at all by my question.
"Well that was a long time ago,..... but this is what I remember.
Ethan's uncle, Elric found her near death in the woods one afternoon when he was hunting with his guards. Stephanie was five at the time.
According to him Steph was found amongst dead bodies of her whole clan or family and his guess was that they were attacked by rogues."
"Is that why the woods are dangerous?" I interrupt the story and she tilts her head a bit.
"Yes, and no. There are no rogues in the woods anymore, it's something else. It even scared them off and anyone who has gone there ever since never...came out.“ I swallow a bit.
"Luckily that didn't happen to you." She adds looking grateful.
"Now back to the story, Elric brought Stephanie to the castle and this place became her refuge.
The king and queen planned to send her to a human orphanage but then they realized something different about her.
At seven they realized she already had knowledge about the supernatural world so they figured she was a supernatural herself. They just didn't know what yet.
Over the years she grew up with us but lived in the maids quarters.
Everything changed when Ethan became the crowned prince.
She would have visions or dreams that would come to past once she told us. The shocking one was when she predicted the king's death precisely.
That's when we realized she is a seer.
So the queen kept her around and she has been helping us ever since." I nod at Lydia
"But why are you so curious about Stephanie? She's nice and friendly.“ I nod at Lydia's words whilst contemplating on the story.
"You know, I mostly think the queen kept her around so Ethan wouldn't feel so different growing up.“ I look at Lydia again.
"They're close friends, and that's just it. In fact we all know Steph is seeing someone." Lydia sounds so assuring that I sense she knows the reason why I asked about Stephanie.
Oh gosh, I am jealous. Ethan was right.
And what if this jealousy was the reason the darkness had a little bit of control over me.
I stop the treadmill then step off. Lydia produces a cold bottle of water and I gladly accept.
I gulp half of the water down when the door opens and I smell cookies.
I look over at Lydia disappointed that she betrayed me but she just smiles and heads for the door.
