Josh’s POV
How the hell could Abbie hide something like that? I wasn’t one to give up. Especially considering the fact that the baby was his.
“Dude, you’ve had enough to drink.”
His train of thought was broken by the sound of his brother’s voice. “No I haven’t.”
“Josh, you’ve had at least 5 drinks within the last hour.”
“Why would she keep something like this from me?”
James shrugged. “Maybe she thought you weren’t ready.”
“I wasn’t, but I wouldn’t leave her. Ever.”
“I caused it.”
“Caused what?”
James sighed, unable to look at Josh. “The accident.”
“What do you mean you caused it?”
“We were drinking and...”
“You f****d her???”
“Josh... you really think she or I would do that to you? No. But she was upset and she came over to vent, so we ended up getting drinks. I was already a couple drinks in, but Abbie insisted so I agreed to go.”
“Go on.”
“I lost control of the wheel and hit a light pole downtown.”
“James, are you f*****g kidding me?”
“I’m sorry, Josh.”
He could barely believe what he was hearing. James caused all of this? “James, I can’t even believe you.”
“I apologized and she forgave me.”
“I’m sorry I got mad at you, bro.”
“It’s okay.”
Realizing that James had once been Abbie's before I came in the picture strangely felt upsetting and falling in love with a woman he shouldn’t have even laid eyes on, but it happened and he did not regret a split second. She was beautiful, amazing and the most kindest woman he’s ever met. Hell if anyone didn’t deserve her, it was me.
I didn’t listen to her, I never even let her explain anything. I f****d up and filed for a divorce. Whoever ran this scam did a hell of a job tearing our marriage hope and that person will pay.
Grabbing my keys, I got in my car and drove to Amanda’s hoping that she would be there.
“Well well well. What can I do for you?”
“I need to speak to Abbie.”
“Leave me alone, Josh.” Her voice whispered in the background.
“Abbie, please.”
Amanda raised her eyebrows. “She’ll give you ten minutes.”
“That’s plenty.”
“Amanda!”
“Abbie, just let him talk.”
Rolling her eyes, Abbie got off the couch and went to the door. “We can go outside.”
Once they sat on the steps, I sighed. “Abbie, I...”
“What the hell are you doing here?”
“I wanted to see you.”
“Please leave.”
“I can’t. I miss you so f*****g much, Abbie. I can’t imagine living my life without you in it.”
“What changed your mind, Josh?”
“I’ve always loved you, Abbie. I just... I never fully wanted to say it.”
“It’s over, Josh. There’s no turning back.”
“No. It’s not over, Abbie.”
“Yes it is.”
“Is it because of the baby?”
Scowling, she stood up and as she tried to slam the door shut, he held it open. “I know who’s involved with the photo.”
“Who?”
“Vivian.”
“The girl you CHEATED on me with?”
“I didn’t cheat on you!”
“I caught her giving you head, Josh! That’s not cheating?!”
“Look, I messed up.”
“Well, she got what she wanted.”
“Which is?”
“To end our marriage.”
“I was an asshole to even believe the photo was real.”
“It’s too late, Josh.”
“Stop.”
“It’s the truth, Josh.”
“We belong together, Abbie. I need you.”
“Whatever.”
“You love me just as much as I love you. You can deny that all you want, but it’s true. You are still madly in love with me.”
“Josh...” her face softened as I lightly slid my thumb against her bottom lip.
“I’ll be right back.”
