Chapter 5

662 Words
“He didn’t give me a chance to explain, James.” Abbie said as she paced around James’s house with a glass of wine in her hand. “That’s shocking.” “All he said was that he wanted a divorce.” James shook his head. “I just can’t believe he would say that. He’s been with a lot of girls in the past, but he told me he literally fell head over heels in love with you.” “Josh is Josh. When he has his mind set on something, he does it. And there’s some more news.” “Which is?” “I’m pregnant.” James raised his eyebrows. “You’re what?” Abbie nodded. “You heard me.” “You didn’t tell Josh?” “No.” “Why?” “Because he said he doesn’t want kids. Not yet anyways.” “Abbie, you NEED to tell Josh.” “I should, but I don’t want to.” “As a side note, you shouldn’t be drinking.” “I’ve only had one glass, James.” “Josh shouldn’t do this s**t to you.” Abbie shrugged. “It is what it is.” “You need to tell him that your pregnant.” “James, I can’t.” “Oh come on, Abbie. Yes you can.” “No. I can’t. I...” “You what?” “I...” “Abbie, what’s wrong? You don’t look good.” **** Everything was a complete blur for Abbie the next morning. The only things that surrounded her were the egg shell colored walls, a small chair and she was laying in a bed that most certainly was not hers. A nurse suddenly came in and Abbie scowled. “Where am I?” “Your in the hospital.” “What?” “Some man brought you here. He said you were driving and crashed into a light pole. Something like that.” “How?” “I don’t know. But we have some bad news.” “Which is?” The nurse sighed. “Due to the injuries, your baby died.” “My baby died?” “I’m sorry, ma’am.” “T-thank you.” Nodding, the woman left the room and the moment she shut the door, Abbie began to cry. The one thing in her life that would make her happy was taken away from her in seconds. She already had mentally prepared herself, she was saving money, but it fell apart in front of her. After a few days, she was back at her apartment and Amanda tried to help her with the loss of her baby, but Abbie felt that there was nothing she or anyone could do about it. Nothing to make her feel better even with the additional support of James as well. She still didn’t bother to tell Josh. Would he even care? Or would he actually step up and become a better person? She ultimately had two decisions to make: Telling Josh she was pregnant or to let someone like Amanda or James tell him? “Abbie?” She looked up and saw James sitting next to her on the couch. “W-what?” “You okay?” “I’m fine.” “Give me the glass.” Amanda said coming from the kitchen. “The what?” “The glass in your hand, Abbie. You’ve had enough for the night.” As she nodded and gave Amanda her glass, she felt tears slowly slide down her cheeks and felt James wrap his arms around her. “We’re here for you, Abbie. No matter what.”
