“Abbie, I have good and bad news. Which one do you want?”
“Bad news.”
“I haven’t been able to find Dave except...”
“f*****g A... found what?”
“He’s dead, Abbie. They found his body in his bedroom.”
“What? How?”
“Police assumed homicide.”
“Who could have wanted to kill Dave?”
“Either Evan or Julie.”
“Why would his girlfriend or best friend kill him?”
“Revenge maybe? Julie was always the jealous type.”
“Yeah, but why would she do that?”
“To ruin your life.”
**** Josh’s POV
There was nothing in the world that he hated more than regret and guilt. The regretful aspect included keeping the photo on his desk. Despite the fact that it indeed had Abbie in it, he lost her because of confronting her. The way Abbie acted when she left was not her. She wasn’t the sweet, kind girl he knew. She seemed more emotionless, as if she didn’t care about him anymore.
Knowing that he slept in his bed alone made it hard for him to sleep at night. He knew he should hate Abbie for what she did, but she was the girl who he wanted to be with for the rest of his life. He was determined to find out who the hell put the photo on his desk. There wasn’t a name, address or anything to prove an identity.
The only option he had was to ask. He dialed his assistant’s call and she answered almost immediately. “Mr. Davidson?”
“I need the head of security, Mr. Bronson.”
“Is everything else?”
“I need to figure that out.”
“Of course. Would you like me to send him a message first?”
“Look through all of the footage between March 4th and 5th.”
“Yes sir.”
*** After three hours of carefully watching all of the footage, the only suspects he could think of was a staff member of the cleaning crew, but why would she do something that crude when she barely even says a single word.
“Mr. Davidson?”
Josh turned around and saw Mr. Bronson standing behind a woman and a man. “Is this who you’re looking for sir?”
“Indeed.”
The woman refused to look at him. Her eyes were glued to the floor, not saying a single word to anyone. “May I ask what’s going on?” The man asked.
“I am trying to figure that out.”
The man nodded. “Ms. Lenner?”
The woman looked at him and raised her eyebrows. “Yes?”
“Mr. Davidson would like to speak to you.”
Josh looked at her carefully and watched as tears slid down her cheeks. “Who set you up?”
“Set me up?” She asked confusedly.
Josh scowled and shook his head. “You know exactly what I mean, Miss...”
“Mandy.”
“Who sent you?”
“A woman.”
“Do you know her name?”
The woman shook her head. “She didn’t give me any information.”
“How do you know her?”
“I only met her one time.”
“Interesting. We only have one more choice: you need to tell me every physical characteristic of her so we can make a sketch of her face.”
