Luka's POV
The topic of Serenity going to school hadn't even been brought up with our parents yet. Our first day home we sat down with the Elders and talked about our relationship and how it came to be. It was stressful on Serenity to answer so many questions. She was also extremely sick from the pregnancy so sitting up for so long was hard.
Then we had to talk to our parents. Serenity and I didn't want to be away from each other. She was sick all night and day and I didn't feel right about leaving her to handle that on her own. I also didn't want her to raise our baby alone while I got to have a normal teenage life.
Our parents were hesitant to let us stay together. They wanted us to maintain a healthy relationship with some distance. They understood our need to be together, though, and agreed to let us stay together every night as long as we promised to keep up our individual hobbies.
The topic of my homeschooling was still up in the air. My parents really wanted me to stay in traditional high school. I didn't want to leave Serenity all day and didn't want to have her take care of the baby alone. We were all talking in the short term with no one seeming to realize that in a few short weeks, a baby would be here. If I wasn't at home, Serenity would have no help with the baby.
I would finish out the week from home and we would go from there with a plan. Our parents were still in shock, somewhat angry and coming to terms with being grandparents. They were being a little stubborn and pushing back a lot.
I woke up to Serenity throwing up early in the morning. I immediately sat up to help her. I pulled her hair back and rubbed her shoulders. My mom peeked her head in after also waking up to the sound and then left to give Serenity privacy. Serenity laid back down.
“I'm never doing this again. I hope you're perfectly happy with one child.” Serenity said.
“Well, I would never force you to do this again, but I would like a son.” I said.
“Hopefully you're like your dad and have two wives. I'm not doing this again.” She weakly joked.
“You'd let me have another wife?” I asked.
“God, no.” She said.
We both laughed.
“What can you keep down? You have to get something in your stomach.” I said.
“Crackers. Maybe a smoothie.” She said.
I nodded and went to work on making her some breakfast. My mom was in the kitchen and helped me gather ingredients for a smoothie. We added a lot of secret ingredients in to try to get some extra nutrition into her. Her morning sickness had been awful. She barely got out of bed.
“How is she?” My mom asked.
“She's tired and sick and sore, mostly.” I said. My mom looked apologetic. She was on my side of this in a lot of ways.
I took Serenity up her smoothie and a few crackers. She ate slowly and started looking a little better. She and the baby were doing well but the constant throwing up was taking a mental toll on her. It made it hard to eat which made the sickness worse.
Eventually she felt well enough to get up and shower. I cleaned up the room a little bit. We were starting to get crowded in my room with all of the things the baby would need and it gave me the idea that I should ask my parents about our own house.
Serenity got out of the shower, got dressed and got settled back in bed. Once she was comfortable and had what she needed to keep her busy for a while, I went to my dad's office.
“Hey, dad, I had a question.” I said.
“What's up?” He asked.
“Do you think Serenity and I could get our own house?” I asked.
“No, Luka. You guys are still young, you should still be living here and having some guidance from your parents.” He said.
“My room is getting crowded. So is hers. We're having a baby and need our own space.” I said.
“Okay, that's fair. We can move you to a family wing in our house. Three bedrooms and a bathroom in your own hallway. We'll still be around, and you'll have more space. Sound good?”
“Yes, that sounds excellent. I'll go tell Serenity.”
