Chapter Sixteen - News

813 Words
Luka's POV After a week and a half in the hospital, Serenity was finally able to go home. We'd discovered our baby was a girl, and I was still adjusting to the fact that in three or four weeks, I would be a father. Serenity had been resting a lot so we hadn't gotten a chance to talk about what had gone on. My parents were driving here to bring my car so I could drive Serenity home. She was in a fragile state and was relying heavily on our alone time to get through. She seemed to quickly grow irritable with other people being around. My dad messaged me to come down to meet him for the keys. I kissed Serenity, promised to return soon and went down to the parking lot to get my keys. I was kind of annoyed that he couldn't bring them up, but that quickly faded when I saw the smile on his face. “I talked to the Elders. They agreed your situation is unique and that everything that they worry about happening has now happened without you even telling her. They've granted permission for you to tell Serenity that you're her mate.” My dad said. I was suddenly filled with excitement and nerves. I thanked my dad several times before running back up to Serenity's room. I wanted to blurt it out right now but I knew that if I waited, I could make it more special. Once we were cleared to go, I helped Serenity get dressed and walk out to the car. Once everything was in the car and she was buckled in, I got in myself. I asked her if she'd like to stop for food that wasn't hospital food and she nodded enthusiastically. “What are you thinking you might want?' I asked. She named a fast food place. “The baby is craving it.” She said. I pulled in to the drive thru and placed the order for whatever it was she asked for. She hadn't eaten anything outside of hospital food in over a week so she got everything she could think of. I reached over and placed my hand on her belly. She looked up at me and smiled. “How long did you know?” I asked her. “I left a few days after I found out. I didn't want this. I didn't want you to know about the baby. I knew you'd never go to your mate if you did.” She said. “I will go to my mate. I met her.” I said. Her face fell. “You did?” She said weakly. “I don't need too much help with the baby. I won't keep you out of her life, but you need to focus on your mate and the pack.” “You didn't let me tell you who she was.” I complained. “Ok. Who is it?” “You.” I said. “What?” She said up quickly. “The Elders gave me permission to tell you considering everything going on. I knew the day I turned seventeen. As soon as I saw you I felt the bond. You are the most perfect woman in the world for me. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you sooner, you know the rules, but I can tell you now. You won't feel the bond until your birthday but you can at least stop worrying that I'll leave. You are my mate, Serenity, and I am here for you and our daughter for the rest of our lives. The Elders can confirm if you feel unsure.” I said. She started crying but reached over to grab my face. We shared a passionate kiss that earned us a few protests from the cars behind us. We got our food and kept driving toward home. I was relieved she finally knew, and that she would stop stressing. Stress wasn't good for the baby. “I love you so much. I can't tell you how happy I am to hear that. Everything I've worried about for so long is just gone.” She said. “I know, sweetie. I love you too.” I said. “Have you talked to your parents at all? What's it going to be like when we get back? Are we going back to staying apart from each other?” Serenity asked. “I haven't specifically asked. I won't be staying away from you. I need to take care of you and the baby and I can't do that if you aren't next to me. I also plan on asking to home school with you so we can easily take care of the baby together. It shouldn't be all on you.” I said. “I want to go back to school.” Serenity said. “I know. How can you, though? With Kale? I think staying home is better and safer for you and the baby.” I said. “Can we talk about it?” She asked.  “Of course.” I told her.
