5. Even in death

At first, I was dumbfounded, but then, I knew I had to tell them what I had seen; I told them about my vision. All except what I witnessed between Jace and Reina.
After giving them an account of everything, they were all quiet for a while, only staring at me.
Tremaine was the first to speak up: "It can't be... She can't..." He turned to his mother.
"What? What am I, Maine?" I asked him.
"A seer". Fiona said.
Jace shook his head. "But aren't they extinct?"
Gerald stepped forward, his gaze focused on me. “It seems we have one in our midst". He declared with admiration in his eyes. Then he went on his knees. They all joined him except Jace. I was so confused by everything. A seer? What is that?
"Can someone explain what is going on?" I asked.
Jace spoke up. “The seers were believed to be the moon goddess's gift to us. They were like her angels because they foresaw events of future happenings long before they took place. They were the first to hear her before the rest of us. But centuries ago, a powerful Lycan, Densin the-great, destroyed every last one of them".
"Why did he do that?" I asked.
"Legend has it that he was the most powerful Lycan alpha of all time, he conquered thousands of packs and brought them under his rule. He had a group of seers who foretold any form of doom that would come to him. Hence, he was able to avoid it. But one day, a plague befell his people. More than half of them died, including his family. He blamed the seers for not predicting the plague and had them all killed. No single bloodline of the seers was spared, I just don't get it. But I thank the goddess for sending you to us, else, we would all be dead". He kissed me.
Everyone left shortly after to give me time to process everything I had just heard.

A WEEK LATER
Ever since the day the pack learned about me, I noticed a change in their behavior towards me, like they were afraid of me. It hurt me that they would think that I could hurt any of them. Only Jace did not change the way he treated me. He was constantly showing me he loved me with his acts. Reina finally returned. I found it odd that he did not question her disappearance.
I sat close to the window one evening, staring at the moon, looking for answers. I kept my gaze focused on the half-moon as I tried to communicate with her: "They say that seers are the first to hear from you, but why am I not hearing anything, do you not have a voice? Why then do you not speak?"
Tears rolled down my cheeks as forgotten memories of the torture I suffered from Mr. Meyers returned to my mind. It felt like a power surge through my brain, my head could not take it and I blacked out. Thankfully, a pair of strong arms caught me before I hit the floor. He carried me to the soft bed and laid me there. I felt him lying beside me and showering kisses upon my forehead.
"Mr. Meyers really hurt me". I said in tears as nights upon nights of torture flashed across my mind.
"Shh, I know, I know". He whispered as he caressed my arm.
I looked up at him. His green eyes glowed in the dim light of the lamp - as he scanned my face. "Will you hurt me as he did?" I asked to quench my innermost fear.
He brought his face close and buried it in the hollow of my neck: "I swear that I will never hurt you, or cause you harm in any way, my luna". He took deep whiffs of my scent.
"Then tell me the truth". I whispered.
He pulled away from my neck and looked down at my face again: "What do you wish to know?"
"What were you and Reina talking about on the day of the attack, and where did she go?"
He exhaled and brought his face closer to mine: "You might hate me for it".
"Try me".
"She is a spy I planted in the Bloodhunters pack. They have been a thorn in our flesh for as long as I can remember. Their leader, Alpha Kaiah, has a vendetta against us that is yet to be explained till this day. Reina's mission is secret, not even my parents know about it. That is why we have conversations under the guise of her trying to flirt with me. But before the attack, she told me she killed one of the pack members by accident but didn't hide his body properly. It annoyed me and I sent her to wipe her tracks".
"Was there no way she could have known about the attack and alerted you?" I asked.
"Believe me, I asked the same question, but she said that she had no idea". He explained.
"Okay". My heart felt at ease. Thank God he isn't having an affair with her.
He kissed my forehead. "Is there any other thing you wish to know about?"
"No, for now".
He smiled and embraced me. I felt safe in his warm arms. I didn't realize that I was gradually falling for him.

"Esnie. Esnie!! Open your eyes!!"
I looked up and saw Mr. Meyers, with a metal rod in his hand: "It's time for your torment. Not even in death will I leave you alone".
He drew closer with the rod in his hand and tried to grab me, but I moved back. I tried to run away but could not. My legs were chained to the ground. I looked around and saw that we were in the middle of a forest... Mr. Meyers suddenly had the body of a werewolf. As he drew closer, I began to shiver... My voice was silenced. No one could hear me, no one.

"Esnie, wake up"
"Jace?" I hugged him tightly and cried on his shoulder. "He was going to kill me, Mr. Meyers wants to kill me. He won't leave me alone even in death".
"He will never harm you, no one will harm my luna". He stroked my hair gently. "I love you".
I looked him in the eyes: "What did you say?"
"I said I love you, my Esnie".
Someone knocked on the door, ruining the mood for both of us.
He angrily marched to the door and flung it open: "What?!"
Reina sauntered in, glanced at me, and focused her attention on Jace: "We need to talk".
"About what?" I asked her.
"It does not concern you, human."
"You will speak in front of my mate". He asserted.
She frowned: "Fine. Alpha Kaiah wants to meet with you".
