Sage's POV
I was running through the woods as fast as I could. Creatures that looked like wild wolves ran all around me, chasing me. I ran faster to try to escape them. Soon I saw my father's face.
"Run faster and don't stop until you're safe with him," he said with panic in his voice.
"Run to who?" I screamed and turned to find my father. I turned in circles in the middle of a forest. I could hear the pounding of feet on the ground. Wolves howled in the distance and suddenly I heard a growl behind me. As I turned around, my eyes opened to the white ceiling above my bed. I could still feel my heart pounding in my chest, and I focused on catching my breath. My dreams have become more vivid and insane lately. I held back tears and tried to calm myself. It was only a dream. I heard a soft, kind voice saying. I looked around the room, but no one was there. It must have been in my head. The alarm clock said 3 am. I could feel a panic attack lurking and decided to take a hot shower. I sat on the shower floor with hot water and steam surrounding me. As the boiling water fell on my body, I held my knees to my chest and sobbed. I sobbed until I couldn't anymore. I finally went back to bed and fell back asleep.
The next morning was the same as always. I got dressed for school, grabbed coffee, and went to my classes. I was a little more tense and on edge today. When I have the wolf dream, I'm always tense the next day. I've been having that dream for a long time, even before dad was murdered. It always made me panic and feel unsafe. As I parked my car, I noticed Mr. Wilson's car was also parked in the same spot as the day before. For a second it looked like he was watching me. I knew it was all in my head and just got my things. As always, I walked past Janie and the others. She had to make her usual display of over effection to Daniel. She had to remind me that she could take anything from me, just like she took him. I went to my locker to grab my things. While I was there, I saw Mr. Wilson arguing with the vice principal.
"The gym teacher has to go home early today, and you're the only teacher who has a free period and isn't covering another class. I'm sorry, but we don't have a sub. We have to help each other out," Vice Principal Millan pleaded
"It's fine. I just don't like my schedule being changed or uninterrupted. Please remember, I'm only teaching here as a favor to the principal. Work harder to find a sub next time," Mr. Wilson replied and turned to walk away. As he turned, our eyes met. Damnit, he knows I was eavesdropping. As I looked back, he was gone. I'll probably hear from him later about it. I closed my locker and went to my first class. The day went by pretty quickly. It was nice not to have most of my classes be with Janie or Daniel or their friends. It was just me and the other dorks.
It was time for chemistry. Shivers and panic started to form inside of me. I held my necklace and took a deep breath. After tucking it into my shirt, I walked into class. I sat in the same seat as the day before. When Janie tried to sit next to me, Mr. Wilson moved her to the back of the room in a now empty seat. She whined and tried to flirt with him in order for him to let her stay in her seat. He stood his ground and sent her to the back. When she turned to go to the seat in the back, I swear he gave me a smile. It was nice.
After class, Mr. Wilson rushed us out. He stated he needed to change, because he was the gym teacher for the next block. I quickly realized that it meant he was about to see the loser I am. It was Friday which meant dodgeball day. I knew I would be picked last despite being pretty good at the game. I was naturally athletic thanks to my dad. He would run miles every morning and night. I got to the locker room and changed into my gym clothes. Red shorts with a white t-shirt that had "Wildcats" printed in red on the front. I put my dark hair into a high ponytail and stretched a little before leaving the locker room. When I walked out, I saw him. Mr. Wilson was handsome in him suit and tie in the classroom. However, he looked sexy in his gym clothes. The black shorts he had on hugged his muscular thigh. The muscle tank top showed off the biceps that his jacket usually covered. His black hair and bright blue eyes contrasted against his golden tan. I didn't realize I was staring until someone bumped into me hard.
"Damn Sage, you don't have to block the exit to the locker room. Move," Janie shoved past me with her two main minions following. I looked around to see if anyone noticed me staring at our teacher. Thankfully, no one seemed to notice. We started the game of dodgeball. As expected, I was picked last. The game went on for a long time. By the end, I was the only one left on our team, and Daniel was the only one standing across the barrier from me. We both had a ball in our hand. He tried to do this spin move where he jerks and tries to trick me from knowing where he was going. He then threw the ball in his hand at me. I was able to dodge out of the way by doing an ariel over the ball. When I landed, I threw the ball right at his stupid face. The gym was silent except for the sound of red rubber bouncing off of an egotistical jock's face. Instead of cheers, everyone ran to check on Daniel. I didn't even throw the ball that hard at him. Everyone was crowding him and checking to make sure he was okay. Everyone except Mr. Wilson. Instead he just stood on the side of the court and stared at me. Our met gaze was interrupted by the sight of a hand coming towards my face. I quickly caught the hand and pushed it away.
"You hurt him. You're just a jealous b***h. If his face is damaged, I swear I will make your life hell," Janie yelled as she raised her hand to try to slap me again. This time, I didn't catch her hand. Mr. Wilson did.
"That is enough Janie. We were playing dodgeball. Getting hit by balls is part of the game. Slapping another student is not. I suggest you get dressed and leave. Class is over!" he yelled. She grabbed her wrist and ran into the locker room. He minions soon followed. Mr. Wilson went and checked on Daniel who only had a red mark on his face. I waited until Janie and her friends left before going into the locker room. I quickly grabbed my things and started to head out of the school. I didn't shower at the school or change. I just go home and do it there. As I got to the door of the school, it was pouring down raining. I ran to my car only to find my tires had been slashed. Feeling defeated and like I was going to cry, I heard a familiar voice yelling out to me.
