Mine, Always

Janine POV Today was incredibly busy. I had so many meetings to attend, especially since Jerome had suddenly left the country—he hadn’t even mentioned that he needed to handle business matters in Europe. “Ma’am, you have a visitor… but they don’t have an appointment scheduled,” my secretary said. I raised my eyebrows at her. Why did she even have to ask? She knew my instructions when things were this hectic. “B-because… if you don’t let him in and he doesn’t see you, he might… die,” she stammered. I wasn’t sure if she was nervous or secretly enjoying this. “Fine, let him in. Maybe I’ll be the reason he dies later,” I sighed. Who could be interrupting at a time like this? The moment the door opened, I jumped up. There he was—my husband, holding a bouquet of red roses. I rushed to him and hugged him tightly. “Why are you here? Aren’t you busy with your company?” I asked. He kissed me softly and handed me the flowers. “I let Diego handle things there. I’m always working anyway, so I took a leave just to be with you. I’ll keep an eye on you here,” he said. My heart fluttered at his words—I couldn’t help but feel giddy. “My sweet honey… thank you, Lucas.” I wrinkled my forehead, maybe from what I said. I took a deep breath. “Because I get to look into your eyes again… that’s all I wanted, but I never expected you to make me feel all of this too.” He wiped the tears from my cheeks. I hadn’t even realized I was crying—but this time, they weren’t tears of pain. There were tears of happiness. “I should be the one thanking you, because despite everything, you still love me and you’re still here. You patiently waited for me,” I said. He kissed my lips, and I could feel the sincerity in him, even though I wasn’t sure yet if love was involved. “I love you so much, Lucas. From then until now.” I hugged him tightly, silently hoping this moment would never end. We agreed that I would continue with work, and he would wait for me on the sofa. But I couldn’t focus at all—how could I, with him constantly staring at me? I looked away when I realized he was taking pictures of me with his phone. I ignored him and continued with my tasks. A little later, he knocked on my desk. I looked up at him, wondering what the matter was. “Are you really this much of a workaholic? Just like my brother Vince… everything I ordered has arrived and you didn’t even notice. It’s twelve-fifteen, and you still haven’t eaten?” he said, slightly scolding me. I just laughed. “Besides Diego and Nilo, you’re one of the chattiest people I’ve missed talking to,” he said. He smiled slightly before returning to his seat. This man… he truly hasn’t changed: still sweet and attentive. I quickly went to him and sat across from him. He was arranging the food for us, and I tried to help—but he waved my hand away. “I got this. Wash your hands; I’m here to take care of you,” he said. I pouted at him. “Stop being cute, hurry up—I’m starving,” he added. I rushed to the bathroom to wash my hands, feeling like all of this was a dream. While we ate, our conversation never stopped. We laughed, we got sad, we argued—just like old times, sharing our thoughts and opinions freely. Later, we returned to the mansion together. I felt so happy going home this time, like I truly had a place to belong. We even had dinner outside—he called it our “date,” something we hadn’t done as a married couple. I hoped it wasn’t a dream, because I didn’t want to wake up. The next morning, I had to leave early for work. I said goodbye and got into the car, only for him to pull me back. “You didn’t even wake me to leave together,” he said, adjusting his clothes. He must have showered quickly. He kissed me on the lips, and I laughed at him—he was annoyed but still sweet. At the company, everyone was surprised to see him. I wasn’t sure if it was shock or just that he was incredibly handsome. “Good morning, Ma’am. Your files for the meeting are ready,” my secretary said. I nodded and greeted him. Lucas adjusted my chair and smiled at me. He was about to kiss me when someone coughed in front of us—my assistant was still there. “Um… sir, I hope you’re not angry, but has Ma’am…?” My secretary wrinkled her brow, and Lucas’s attention shifted. “What?” Lucas asked seriously. My secretary gestured to me in a way I didn’t understand. “Just say it already. What is it?” Lucas sighed and sat down in the chair across from us. “B-because… Ma’am, isn’t it against company policy for investors to see Sir during meetings?” We exchanged a glance, and he laughed. “Don’t worry. I have no plans to attend my wife's meetings, and I know my limits. I’ll just wait here until it’s done. Your company’s privacy,” Luc said calmly, gently stroking my back. “Thank you, Sir. I’m glad you understand! If they see you, they might back out—especially Sir Jonas; he might get jealous,” My secretary realized she was talking too much. “Um… sir, aren’t you like that too when your investors are women? You’d just take care of them so they wouldn’t run away,” my secretary said. Lucas removed her from behind me, glaring at me. “No. I don’t care about our investors. They’re the ones begging to invest, not us,” he said. My secretary looked scared and ashamed, and honestly, I was annoyed too. She excused herself, leaving Lucas and me alone in my office. He sat on the sofa reading a magazine. He glanced at me briefly—I could tell he was annoyed. I stood up and went to him, hugging him suddenly. “How do you even handle your investors?” I teased, looking at his serious, annoyed expression. “There’s no special treatment. I don’t know about my assistant—she says all sorts of things,” He held my face and looked into my eyes. Was he going to kiss me out of jealousy? “Ma’am, the meeting’s waiting on your suitors—uh, I mean investors!” She flashed a peace sign and left. “Just for a moment, I’ll be back soon,” I nodded, saying nothing. I hesitated to leave my office, but when I saw my assistant, I shot her a glare—and she just laughed. “Sir Jerome just told me to do it. And yes, I was honest with your husband,” she said. I just shook my head and handed her the files. When I entered the conference room, everyone stood and greeted me. I noticed Jonas approaching to kiss my hand. “You look great as always, Janine,” he said—always a smooth talker in meetings. “Thank you. You too,” I smiled politely. “So… I assume you can accept my invitation for dinner now? You’re still single, after all, just carrying your husband’s last name,” he said. I took a deep breath, unsure how to respond. “In your dreams, jerk,” I said, only to feel someone grab my waist from behind. Lucas. But why was he here? “Montenegro, do you have no shame? You even compete for married women now?” “Wait, wait, bro! Looks like the wind changed. Are you okay? I heard—” Jonas stuttered. Lucas laughed lightly and fixed Jonas’s collar. “I never thought men could gossip too, looking at you. By the way, don’t call me bro—you’re not my friend. If those four find out, you’re in trouble,” Lucas said firmly. “I’m sorry, br—I mean, Mr. Samaniego.” Jonas stepped aside and sat down. I pulled Lucas toward me. “Why are you here? You know you’re not supposed to be,” I said. My assistant approached. “Sir Lucas, here are your files too,” Lucas handed them over, and I looked between them confused. “Oh, ma’am, I almost forgot—your new investors are also shareholders. Sir Luc actually owns a bigger share than Sir Jerome,” my assistant added, laughing. “Jealousy really works wonders, huh? Millions at your fingertips!” I glanced at Lucas, who was looking elsewhere. “Your hair is long, ma’am. Oh wait—I stepped on it.” Jonas bent down to comb it dramatically. Lucas looked at me, held my shoulders, and whispered, “What’s mine, is mine.” He kissed me suddenly, and I ignored everyone around us. I felt like I was floating. I hoped I could be with him like this forever.
