As soon as he could, Ricci got them a tour guide who did most of the conversing, telling them about Rome. They passed by popular sights like the Coliseum, the ruins of the Greek temple apparent. They also passed by the Pantheon and Siena asked the driver to stop. They got down with the guide who led them into the single room of the Pantheon and they traversed the width of the place, studying the semi-circular niches which were hewn into the wall. These spaces, big enough to hide a person used to contain statues of Olympian gods, the guide informed them. The statues were removed from the Pantheon when the Vatican converted it to a christian church. The guide also informed them that the hole in the Pantheon's roof was said to be made by escaping demons when it was consecrated by Boniface
