Chapter 11

952 Words
A building fell to the hammering of the waves that rose to the height of skyscrapers. Screams were silenced as water quickly filled the lungs. While the wind muted any voices that dared escaped. A female quickly, yet gently placed a young child, her child into a chest. The girl looked up, her fearful eyes were glassed as tears rolled down her face. "Hush baby, everything is going to be okay. Just be a good child and listen to your mother okay?" The girl nodded and the female smiled. "Don't open the chest till everything is quiet, don't open the chest till you stop moving… okay?" Without waiting for a response she shut the chest, just as the wave crashed into the building they were in.  The water without mercy pulled the female away and dragged her under. The chest stayed afloat and a voice of a young girl screaming for her mother echoed through the air.  Three days later a group of four found a chest laying on shore, opening it they saw a girl with blue hair. The girl's lashes fluttered open, her eyes held unshed tears. **** Mortal… the serpent hissed, its voice was low and husky, identifying itself as a male. His golden eyes were narrowed as it took in the sight before him. A young five year old girl and a book. His spikey, crystal like tail swished back and forth, cutting through the water.  "H-hi?" Yukino said hesitantly and due the lack of ability to process anything currently, she waved at the serpent, then immediately brought her hands down in horror. The serpent isn't going to kill her is he? Yukino's eyes flicked back and forth, trying to calculate the chances of her escaping. Which she figured was zero. And her mood sunk even more.  However, something in her heart stirred at the voice. So familiar… so comforting… she somehow felt deep down that the serpent would never hurt her. Even if she attacked him. Are you here for the flower? The serpent asked. His voice snapped Yukino out of her daze. "Yes! I mean, no, not at all…" was Yukino's response. Kami, who has burrowed itself into the arms of Yukino wanted to smack her master on the head and give her a good lecture. Really…? The serpent eyes narrowed even more as it took in the puny mortal in front of him… his eyes then opened wide in.. shock? A divine being? Impossible! But why do I sense such a strong soul, the same as hers…? Unless…? No you can't be her… can you? The last part was a murmur, so Yukino didn't hear it. "Uh, Mr. Serpent?" Yukino asked worriedly. Only to internally smack herself. Why was she worried about the serpent?  Take the flower girl.. your brother is in dire need of it. The serpent said. His eyes stared at Yukino earnestly. "Huh? What? Thay easy??" She stared at the serpent, eyes full of suspicion. But yet again, her heart started to hurt at the simple thought that the serpent might be lying. Or it could have been that Yukino was doubting the serpent. Do you not want it? "I do!" Yukino answered with thinking. But? "But why are you giving it away? Haven't you guarded it for a long time?" The serpent looked down onto the girl. Stop asking questions and just take it! "Okay!" Yukino couldn't help but jump back a bit with the serpent's aggressive and sad tone. "Sorry, geez."  She then cautiously walked towards the flower.   Yukino did try to pick the plant, but then jumped back as the flower seemed to open up and the leaves stretched, in attempt to wrap itself around Yukino wrist, and if Yukino wasn't fast enough the plant would have succeeded. "You could have told me before!" Yukino hissed. Peeved. The serpent who was watching seemed to have raised a brow as he watched the girl who actually managed to avoid the plant's leaves. He let out a sigh and shook his head in silent laughter as he watched the two argue. A bright light then enveloped him. Yukino who was busy arguing with Kami stopped to look over to see the cause of the bright light. She was shocked, like jaw dropping onto the ground shocked to see a male, in the early twenties, with blue hair and a pair of golden eyes hovering over the water. The male was, without a doubt, handsome. Godlike would be a more accurate word. "Mr. Serpent?" Yukino asked with disbelief. The male looked over and nodded. Then he proceeded to fly over to the plant, who should Yukino mention, did not try to eat him and he easily plucked the flower out. "Once it's plucked it would become like any normal flower." "Not dangerous." Yukino said. "Not dangerous." The man repeated. "Not man-eating." "Not man-eating." "Not poisonous." "Not poisonous." The man confirmed all of Yukino's worries. Satisfied with his answers, Yukino reached out to take the flower.  "Thank you!" Yukino gave the man a smile. Happily twirling around with the flower. She then turn and started to skip away. The man's eyes who soften looking at the back of the girl turned to stared at the book who didn't follow its master yet. "..." the male said nothing. "Of course I know…." She is the one I've sworn my life to… his eyes flashed with an unknown light as his face let out a sad smile. Kami then turned to chase her master.
