CHAPTER 32 A WARD VISIT Matthew snuck into Liz’s room as Johnny walked out of the ward. His eyes were dark as he nodded to him in the corridor. As he stood there, watching her, he cringed at the bruises and grazes around her face and arms. She had a cast around her fractured wrist and looked fragile and weak as she sat up, her back leaning against a stack of pillows while her eyes appeared drowsy and worn-out. Liz’s eyes lit up at the sight of Matthew. He took a seat across from her. “How are you feeling?” She shrugged. “I’ve got to wear this stupid cast for at least the next four weeks.
