CHAPTER 18 A SMALL PACKAGE Liz spoke on the phone while Gabriella sat near her desk, waiting to discuss her current performance review and report. “Thank you so much for the great news.” She hung up and turned to Gabriela. “Camilla’s due to leave the centre in about two weeks. She’s apparently doing well and engaging in the individual and group counselling.” A dark shadow crossed Gabriella’s face. “That’s good for Mariana, I guess.” “Are you okay?” Liz wondered if Gabriela was reminded of her own past of a lost childhood, similar to Mariana’s situation. She shrugged. “I just hope she doesn’t relapse, you know? That poor girl’s precious. All children are precious.” Liz nodded and leaned forward. “I know, and we’ll be monitoring her closely to make sure she’s okay. She’ll get strong. B
