CAMILLA’S RETURN
Matthew checked his watch and paced the floor while waiting for Liz and Camilla. Mariana kneeled in the living room, pulling a white apron over a Barbie doll’s head, the doll looking like a mother. The poor girl was acting out the ideal mother with her toy. Matthew wondered if Mariana would get her mother back. Would Camilla stay clean and not relapse, or would she be triggered yet again because of her terrorising past? It was a precarious situation, given their sordid history. He had dealt with the past by helping others in dire situations while Camilla dealt with her trauma by blocking the pain with drugs. At least now she’d be getting regular counselling, on top of the counselling she’d had in the rehabilitation centre.
He joined Mariana in the living room
