Departure
MAX'S POV
"You're a beast, Max!" Emily sobbed as she glared at me.
"But..but it..it wasn't my fault.." I shuttered.
"I don't care if it was your fault or not. All I know is that you caused the death of our parents and yet you won't take care of me. How heartless could you be?" Emily yelled as she sobbed.
"You can't say that Emily, you know I have to look after the company." I sighed moving closer to her.
"So you've chosen the company over me? How in hell did I have such a brother like you?" Emily yelled as she continued to cry.
"Okay, I'll make it up to you, I'll spend time with you now." I sighed as my eyes became red, tears threatening to drop down from them.
"No, I don't care about you any longer brother. You're not my brother anymore and I'll forget about you forever." Emily sobbed as she stood up.
"But you can't leave me, you know you're the only family member left, how would our parents feel if we separated?" I sighed trying to hold back my tears.
"I don't care about that. Since you've decided to be that way, then I can only leave you to your troubles." Emily sobbed as walked away.
"But, Emily, you're my sister..."
"Max Edward, from now on, I, Emily Edward, am no longer your younger sister but a stranger," Emily said as she wiped away the tears in her eyes. I could see the resolution in her eyes.
"But you can't do this to me, you can't just leave..."
"Yes I'll leave, you have no rights over me, I'm nothing but a stranger to you!" Emily interrupted me as she yelled.
"But.."
"Yes, I'll leave," Emily sneered and walked away wiping the tears in her eyes.
"Emily, wait, you can't leave!" I yelled running after her.
"Max, I'll call the police on you if you continue to follow me," Emily said in a cold voice without turning around.
I could hear the pain in her voice even though she had hidden it deeply. It was all my fault that she was leaving.
"Emily, please don't go," I yelled as tears flowed down my face, I couldn't hold it back anymore.
Emily didn't turn around to look at me and stopped a taxi right in front of me. I could only watch as the cab drove away.
Suddenly, I noticed a truck from the corner and it was heading toward the taxi Emily had boarded.
"No!!" I yelled as I ran towards the cab trying to stop it, but it was too late. The cab collided with the truck resulting in a ghastly accident.
-----
"Arrrghhh!"
I yelled as I woke up with a start breathing heavily. I had been having this dream ever since my sister angrily left for Wales after our parent's death and not having enough time to look after her.
Looking outside the window, I noticed that the sun was up.
"Shit." I cursed as I rushed to prepare for my flight.
I was heading to Wales today for some medical treatment and was supposed to catch a flight that would be due in about an hour and yet I wasn't prepared.
In no time, I was ready. Getting into the car, the driver drove straight to the airport.
Ring! Ring!
Along the way, my phone suddenly rang making me frown as I was sure I was expecting a call from anyone. My frown changed into a smile when I saw the caller's ID.
"Max, are you at the airport?" A deep voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Not yet Uncle, but I'll be there soon." I smiled.
"Hurry up, the executives want to bid you goodbye." My uncle, Collins, sighed.
"I'll be there in five minutes." I smiled and hung up.
In about five minutes, I was at the airport. Getting out of the car, I met the executives of the company already waiting for me.
"We hope you get well soon, president." The executives smiled as they greeted me.
"I'll be fine, it's just a minor checkup and nothing much." I smiled while collecting the bouquet they gave me.
Since I was heading to Wales, I had no other choice but to leave the company in the hands of my uncle whom I believed was the best to help manage it while I would be away.
"Max, come back healthy," A hoarse voice sounded as a figure pulled me into a hug.
"Don't worry, it's nothing, Jake. I'll be fine." I smiled and hugged him.
James was my best friend, we had known each other for quite a long time and he has always been my best supporter and had also given me bits of advice anytime I needed them.
After chatting for a while with the executives, and my uncle, I bid them goodbye as it was almost time for the flight.
"Max, take care of yourself, make sure you're healthy before you come back." My uncle smiled as he waved at me.
I smiled as I waved back at him. At the moment I was very happy that I had forgotten about most of my problems.
----
(AN HOUR LATER)
I sighed as I walked out of the airport. Looking around, I realized that I was now a stranger to a place I was familiar with. I was schooling in Wales before the death of my parents.
I was forced to go back to Oxford after their death and since then I had been so busy that I had been unable to come for over the past seven years.
"I wonder how Emily is doing?" I sighed as I muttered in my heart.
One of the reasons I had come to Wales was to improve the relationship between me and my sister. I knew that we were only going to grow apart if I didn't try to do something.
Even though I knew she hated me, I was sure that she wasn't going to deny the fact that she misses me even though she wasn't going to accept it. Also, I was going to be staying at her place in Oxford.
Even though I don't talk to her, I made sure to send enough money for her upkeep every month and the time I felt she would need it. I knew not what my sister was doing in Wales but she must have gone through a lot.
Pushing the thoughts out of my mind, I took out my phone and dialed her number. This was the first time I was calling her in the past seven years. I knew I wasn't a good brother. But then I had to repair our relationship.
"What do you want Max?" Emily's cold voice came from the other end of the phone.
At first, I thought that she wasn't going to pick it up, but then she picked it up.
"I'm in Wales and I have nowhere to stay. So would you come to pick me up? I'll be staying at your place." I sighed hoping she wasn't going to disagree.
"I don't have a place for strangers in my house. Besides, you own such a big company, I'm sure you'll be able to afford to stay at a five or six-star hotel for the duration of time you'll be here." Emily snorted.
"I know I'm in the wrong, but are you not going to allow your brother you've not seen in seven years to go to a hotel?" I sighed.
"Max, don't try to use reverse psychology on me, it won't work." Emily snorted and hung up the call.
I sighed seeing the call had ended. She hated me for what had happened in the last seven years when it wasn't even my fault.
Well, I guess I was going to have to stay at the hotel.
Just before I could flag down a taxi, a text message came in. Looking at the message, I saw it was an address sent by my sister. I smiled bitterly when I saw the address. It was just like I had guessed.
Even though she didn't want to admit it. She must have missed me badly just as I did.
Smiling slightly I walked forward when I suddenly bumped into a figure.
"Young man, watch where you are going?" A cold feminine voice resounded.
Hearing the voice a jolt of light flashed passed through my body. Looking up at the figure I was stunned.
Wasn't this the woman I had run into, the day before? What the hell was she doing in Wales?
It seems like fate has brought us together once again.
"Excuse me!" The woman's cold voice drifted into my ears.
"I'm sorry." I smiled embarrassedly hearing her voice as I was lost in my thoughts for some time.
"I'm Max Edward, we met at Oxford yesterday." I smiled, stretching out my hands for a handshake.
