Chapter 70
Jess blinked rapidly, struggling to understand where he was. He stared around in confusion for a few moments, trying to work out why the fantastic surroundings seemed familiar to him.
Then it hit him and he let out a laugh. Of course! It felt similar to his adventures into the systems of the Wanderer, to the time he’d had to fight tooth and nail to free the ship from the Taint’s grasp.
The laugh cut off abruptly as he remembered that was also the last time he’d seen Ali, his Ali. She had somehow thrown off the Taint’s control, for a moment at least, and had saved Jess. She’d saved him by taking all the pain, all the agony, that he had been weighed down by into herself.
