CH 1. New Job
Staring at the long mirror in her living room, Val, short for Valentina, wondered if her outfit she had on which was a black suit with a gray, almost silver dress top and black flats, would be good enough for her to wear to the interview. She was average height, 5’7”, and not too fit, had a great, healthy, curvy look about her she was blessed in the areas of her body that matter. She turns to the side to make sure her long brown curly hair looked decent, she always wore it down with pieces pulled out of her face when she wanted to impress someone, the brown made her jade color eye pop. Leaving an impression on everyone she met.
"Stop worrying. You look great! You're going to rock that interview." Vals' roommate Shayla said, walking in the living room.
"I know I'm just nervous. I feel as though something big is about to happen. I just can't place my finger on what." She sighs straightening her blazer. "Time to go."
Clicking the door shut, she started her walk down the stairs from their 3rd floor apartment, waving at her elderly neighbor Ms. Winslow.
"Good luck today, sweetie." Ms. Winslow said with a calming voice, walking back into her apartment. Val felt a little less nervous after hearing her. Ms. Winslow had always been super nice since the first day the girls had moved in.
Finally arriving at the Law Firm where she would be interviewing for the Legal File Clerk position, they had just opened. Val knew if she could get her foot in the door and show them what she was made of they would be happy to have her as an asset to the company and hopefully once grad school was over, they would let her be a full lawyer there. Val went over some practice interview questions in her head while heading to the small office building at the end of the street. It was no more than a 5-minute walk from her apartment building.
"Good morning, and welcome to Grey and Grey. How can I help you?" the secretary asked when Val entered the building. She looked around to see the office building to see the different shades of gray they decorated the lobby in simple but classy, she thought to herself.
"Good morning. I have an interview with Mrs. Grey this morning." Val stated with a smile.
"Right this way, please." Val followed the secretary down the hall with anticipation to a meeting room. "Please have a seat, Mrs. Grey will be with you shortly."
"Thank you." Val said while walking toward the long oval table with black office chairs.
She walked past the chair to the window where she could see the ocean. She stared at it, helping her relax a little and clear her mind to focus on just the interview. Val always loved the ocean well, anything to do with nature. She turned to take the closest seat when she heard the door click to open. In walked a very fit woman on the taller side with jet black hair pulled up into a very professional looking bun. Her icy almost white, blue eyes met Vals eyes.
"It's so glad to see you again Valentina, thank you for coming in for a second interview." Mrs. Grey said, walking to Val, extending her hand for a handshake. They talked and went over everything the job would require if Val were to receive the position. After what felt like 30 minutes, but really it was 2 hours, Mrs. Grey concluded the interview.
"Well, Miss Lovegood. I would like to offer you the position. I will email you the papers, and after everything comes back, I will contact you about a start date." Mrs. Grey said with a smile.
"Thank you so much!" Val stated, hoping she did not sound too eager. She shook Mrs. Grey's hand again as they left the meeting room. Walking down the hall, she saw 2 ruggedly handsome gentlemen, one an older gentleman who she already knew as Mr. Grey, he did her first interview with the company. He was taller than Mrs. Grey, very fit with silver and white hair and dark almost black eyes, probably in his 60s, a silver Fox if you will. The second was a slightly younger gentleman, possibly in his early 40s, favored Mr. Grey, you could tell they were related.
"Welcome to the company, Miss Lovegood. Can't wait for you to start working with us." Mr. Grey stated once the men had approached her.
"Thank you. I am excited to get started." reaching out to shake Mr. Grey's hand.
Without introducing the second gentleman, they walked away, and Val made her way to the door. She was looking down when her shoulder hit what she thought was a brick wall. Boy, was she wrong.
"Watch where the H*ll you are going." the young man stated. She glanced up to see a handsome man who was probably not much older than herself, tall with rippling muscles, black button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, one wrong move and it would be torn to shreds, and a pair a blue jeans on, black hair and dark Grey colored eyes clearly related to The Grey's. Probably their son.
"My apologies." Val apologized, rubbing her arm. The man looked extremely annoyed by Vals presence and turned to walk towards where Val had just come from.
"Whatever don't f*****g let it happen again” he huffed without a second look. okay, rude. Val thought to herself. She exited the building and made her way home.
"I'm home!" she said, entering the apartment. Clearly, Shayla was not, she walked over to the kitchen where they always put the mail going through hers. That is when she saw the white envelope with gold swirls etched on it. She already knew what it was for without even reading it. When she first came to town, she heard about the lavish parties the Grey's had put on and always hoped she could get invited, but since they had no clue who she was until a month ago, she would always have to wait.
Until Now!
