Chapter 21

Alice:

I was once again alone with my mother and I said, “When is the date?” She smiled then said, “You have 2 months before then.” I smiled then said, “I will go meet the Elders tomorrow.” She added, “Since you killed one, might I suggest you add another.” I nodded understanding what she meant and said, “Do you still think Sky is a good candidate?” She smiled then said, “He is a good candidate.” I nodded and said, “He stood by my side when I fought Richard.” She added, “His mate is a wolf too but he keeps it a secret.” I looked at her surprised then smiled as I said, “Okay, that settles that.” She nodded then said as she yawned, “You should go see him.” I gave her a kiss before leaving her to rest.

I made my way to my room and as I entered I saw Hanna telling some maids what to do. The maids listened carefully but when they saw me they bowed. I gave them a nod then said to Hanna, “Go keep an eye on my mother.” She nodded them left. I looked around then said to the maids, “Please clean the room and call Alfred to come see me later for a fitting.” They nodded and I walked out again. I began wandering the halls until the shouting of a woman caught my attention. I got closer and she said loudly, “You are a useless waste of space! You are not even capable of cleaning!” I opened the door as the woman dumped a bucket of dirty water unto a woman scrubbing the floor. I looked at her and she said surprised, “Princess.” I looked at the girl then at the surrounding area. We were in one of the small libraries we had and it was almost spotless aside from the pool of dirty water that surrounded the girl. I walked up to them and said as I looked at the water, “Clean this mess up.” The girl began to pick up the water with a rag but I said as I grabbed her hand holding the rag and took it from her, “You go wait outside.” The other woman looked at me surprised and I said as I handed her the rag, “You made this mess, you clean it up.” Her face was red but she took the rag and did as I said. I walked back to the other maid and said, “Are you okay?” She nodded but was very quiet. I smiled then said, “My name is Alice, what’s your name?” She smiled then said, “My name is Angela.” I smiled hearing her sweet voice then said, “Can you let me have a look at your face?” She gulped then lifted her face. I was dumbfounded when I saw her face, she looked exactly like me except for her dark brown hair. I grabbed her face and said as I looked her in the eyes, “You look just like me.” She looked at me confused and I said, “Come, let’s get you changed before you get sick.” She still looked at me confused but followed me silently.

We walked to the maid’s quarters and I saw her make her way to one of the rooms. I followed her silently but curiously at the same time. She kept glancing at me to see if I was still following her. She opened the door and I walked to it but did not enter. She looked at me then said, “This is my room.” I smiled then said, “May I come in?” She smiled then said, “Please come in.” I walked in and looked around. It was a small room but it was very clean and neat. She organized everything and she said as I walked to a small table that  had some pictures, “They are my parents.” I picked up the picture and saw a couple and a little girl.” I said softly, “Where are they?” She said almost like a whisper, “They died when I was young and my aunt sold me to Madam Olga, she works here and I am like her slave.” I put the picture down then said as I turned to her, “She was the woman that was screaming at you?” She nodded, then I said, “Well, from now on you will be free.” She looked at me confused then said, “She will never give me freedom.” I smiled then said, “I know she won’t.” I patted her head then said, “Get dried up and meet me in the same library as soon as you are dressed.” She nodded and I left. 

I walked to the library and I found the woman still cleaning up. She was cursing under her breath and I said as I opened the door, “I want to buy that girl.” She looked at me surprised but looked away quickly. She didn’t respond immediately but when she did she said, “How much will you give me?” I smiled then said, “How much do you want?” She looked up at me and I saw the greed in her eyes as she said, “One million dollars.” I smiled then said, “Leave that there and bring me the ownership paperwork to my father’s study.” She nodded and left immediately. Angela was standing by the door and as soon as she saw me she had tears in her eyes. I walked up to her and she said, “I thought you were different.” She walked away and I sighed realizing that she didn’t understand what I was doing. 

I walked to my father’s study and as I entered I heard someone walking towards me. I sat down on my father’s chair and the woman entered. I looked at her then said as I unlocked a cabinet, “Is that her slave card?” She nodded and I took my check book from the drawer. Her eyes widened as I began to write a check. I ripped it and said as I held it to her, “This is the amount you are selling her for, no more no less.” She nods as she hands me the paper and takes the check. She examines it then says with a big smile, “Good doing business with you.” I give her a glare then say, “You are quitting your job, correct?” She nods as she walks out of the room. I sigh but decide to go look for Angela first. I looked everywhere in the castle for her but I was unsuccessful. I decide to go back to my room and as I look around I notice that all my things have been kept exactly as I left them. I smiled then walked to the balcony as I remembered Angela. I look outside and I see her walking into the woods with a bag. I quickly jump from my balcony and begin to follow her.
