Chapter 35

Alice:

I already knew that I had dislocated his right shoulder but I did not see any other damage. The medic greeted me quickly before examining Jake. He said as he looked at me, “He has a dislocated shoulder and I think you might have fractured a rib but I will run some tests.” I sighed then said, “I need to practice how to control my strength again.” The doctor smiled then said, “I will let you know how his condition is after the tests are done.” I nodded and he said as he put his shoulder back in place, “This has to be fixed before it starts healing.” I heard the loud pop and I felt so guilty about what I did. Sky walked up to me and said, “He knew well what he was agreeing to. He will be fine, this is not the first time he has fought with you.” I nodded before saying, “That might not have been the first time but I used a lot of strength in that attack.” I looked around and I saw the soldiers looking at me with mixed emotions. 

Sky smiled and said again as he patted my shoulder, “Go get some rest. I will let you know when training will begin.” I nodded and began to make my way back to the castle. As I walked in I heard Angela talking in the living room. I walked towards the sound of her voice and I saw Lux, Darren and my mother sitting down listening to Angela tell them a story. I walked to the entrance quietly and stood there listening to her. She was so into telling the story she didn’t even notice me standing a few feet away from her. When she was done my mother said, “You have such a captivating way of telling stories.” She said embarrassedly, “I love to read and when I was younger I would read to my parents and friends.” I added as I walked up to her, “You have such a calming voice.” She turned to me and said surprised, “How long were you there?” I said, “Not long but if I remember correctly I didn’t kill everyone in that battle.” She blushed and said, “That was not a story about you.” I laughed then said, “Who do you think the Merciless Princess is?” My mother laughs as she says, “Alice has many stories about her but I’m not sure which ones are true anymore.” I laugh and say, “Most of them are exaggerated but others are correct.” Angela looks at me surprised and I add, “We have training later so get some rest before then.” They nod and Darren asks me softly, “Umm, Princess, can I ask you something?” I smile as I say, “Sure, but call me Alice when we aren’t in public.” He nods and says, “Why did you help me?”

 I was caught off guard with that question so I said, “I was really hurt when I saw the condition you were in. As soon as you didn’t reply to the question if someone was threatening you I knew I had to help you.” He looked at the floor and said, “Even with your help I wasn’t strong enough to save my mother.” I was about to say something when my mother said, “Parents are meant to die protecting their child. A mother will do anything in order to make sure her child lives, even if that means giving her life.” I looked at her then she added, “I lost my mate in an ambush. Alice and James, a boy she rescued when she was younger, fought to keep me safe but my mate sacrificed himself in order to make sure we got out of there alive. I can’t tell you what your father was thinking or why he acted the way he did but your mother, I can definitely tell you that she was like my husband. She gladly gave her life to make sure you got a chance to live.” He looked at her and he was crying again. I sighed seeing him crying but Angela said softly, “I asked a few of the guards to go to your home and take care of the bodies. I spoke with Queen Marie and we are making preparations for a funeral for your mother.” My mother sighed as she said, “I don’t want you to call me mother if it bothers you but don’t call me Queen Marie as if I were a stranger to you.” I saw the disappointment in my mother’s eyes and Angela said softly as she blushed, “I wasn’t sure if I could call you mother.” I hugged her then said, “You can call her mother too.” She nodded and said, “I have spoken with my mother and she has agreed to a funeral for your mother.” He smiles and says, “Thank you.” 

As we were talking about other things to cheer Darren up, Sky entered and said, “Sorry for the intrusion, Princess’ and my Queen. I came to let you guys know that training will start in an hour.” I nod as I look at him then he adds, “Jake is doing fine, just a minor fracture that should be healed by tomorrow.” I sigh with relief and say, “Thank you, we will meet you in the training grounds.” He nodded before leaving. I said to the other, “Come on, we have to go train.” They nodded and Daren said, “Can I watch?” I nodded and said, “Wait here and we will come get you before we leave.” He nodded and we left to get ready. We returned and took Darren to the training grounds with us to observe.
