Chapter 30

I walk towards my grandmother's room and I feel sad. I place my hand on the door handle and open it slowly. Jon said, "Are you going to be okay, Alpha?" I sigh again and enter as I say, "I'll be fine." I walk to the closet and grab her suitcase. I quickly begin to put her clothes in it while Jon cleans her night stand. As I'm putting her clothes away I feel someone tap my shoulder. I turn and see Jon holding an envelope. I look at him confused and he says, "It has your name on it." I frown and I take it from him. I look at it and open it slowly. A hint of my mate's scent hits my nostrils and I quickly begin to read it. 

My love, I'm so sorry that I had to leave you without saying good bye. I wanted to tell you but I was already regretting having to leave you. If you had told me to stay and wait for you I would have done so but I could not afford to wait. My mother needs me and I can't abandon my only living relative. I love you so much and I hope to see you very soon. Please forgive me and remember that I will always love you. Your truly, Alice.

I didn't realize I was crying until Jon gave me a tissue. I took it and he said, "I finished the other things. I will wait outside for you." I didn't say anything as he walked away. I felt grateful that my friend understood me. I spent a few minutes rereading the note and smelling her light scent form the letter. After a while, I finished putting away my grandmothers clothes away and did a final check of the room before I walked out and told Jon to help me take the other box. We made our way back to the pack territory and as we arrived my father was waiting for me outside. I quickly walked up to him and he said, "They attacked Silver Moon again." I said worried, "Did they take the rogue?" He shakes his head as he says, "No, Klive and our warriors managed to hold them off but it seems that they were waiting for you to leave in order to attack." I frown and say, "Damn it. They are really getting on my last nerve." He sighs then says, "You need to go back." I frown as I say, "I will but first let's bury grandma." He gets a sad look then says, "Yes, let's hurry." Jon had taken the stuff inside the house and I said once he returned, "We are going to the funeral home to get the ceremony underway." He nodded then said, "Do you have any idea why the rogues attacked when you weren't there?" I hook my head then said, "Maybe they're scared of me?" He nods and says, "That's one possibility." I looked at him curiously and ask, "What do you think?" He gives me a worried look and says, "I think they are after you." I frown and say, "Why me?" He says, "They made sure that whoever got captured would not be able to tell us who the culprit are or their plan but managed to make it so some things can slip." I nod and say, "Maybe but we won't know for sure until I manage to trick that rogue into telling us everything." He nods and says, "When are we leaving?" I sigh then say, "After the funeral." He looks at me and I add, "Tonight." He nods and says, "Let's go to the funeral home then I will have some omega's make us dinner before we go." I nod as we walk to the car. 

The drive to the funeral home is not too far but I was not in the mood to interact with others. They all knew that my grandmother had passed and were preparing gifts for her funeral. As I entered the funeral home I was greeted by Alfred, the director and mortician. He said as he bowed, "Hello Alpha Blackwood, I'm sorry for your loss." I say, "Thank you, what else is pending for the funeral?" He smiles sadly and says, "Nothing. Everything was prepared just like she wanted for her funeral." I smile sadly and say, "She prepared even her funeral." He smiles then says, "Yes, she was a great planner." We all smile and I say, "The funeral will be help today." He nods and says, "All I need is a time." I look at my watch then say, "At 6pm." He nods and I say to Jon, "Come on, I have to do one last thing before I leave." He nods and we get in the car. 

I instruct him where to go and after a few minutes we arrive to my destination. I walk to the apartment building and walk to Alice's previous apartment. I walk to the door and knock. As I waited to see if the place was empty someone opened the door. I saw James and he looked at me surprised. I felt myself get angry but relaxed when I saw him get scared. I said, "Please let her know that my grandmother has passed away and that I will be away for a while longer, helping my father with some matters with an ally that was attacked. I'm also going to be made official Alpha and even though I love her and want her, I will be getting married to someone else for the good of my people." He had a shocked look and before he could say anything I walked away. I felt like ripping him to pieces but I knew that it wasn't his fault. I managed to calm down by the time I got back in the car. Jon looked at me then said cautiously, "Are you okay?" I sigh then say, "Not sure." He nodded and began the drive back home.

We arrived back home and began to get ready for the funeral. The service was beautiful just like my grandfather's but I felt so lost and hurt because I didn't have my mate and now I didn't have my grandmother who was my mother figure and guide with my mate. I stayed with my father as everyone gave us their condolences but I was ready to leave. My father said as he placed his hand on my shoulder, "What are you thinking of, son?" I look at him and sigh before saying, "My mate." His face saddens then says, "I don't think she ran away form you." I sigh again then say, "I know, she gave a letter to grandma and I read it. She explained why she couldn't say good bye and that it was important that she go home." He smiles then says, "That means she fell in love with you too." I smile feeling happy that even my father recognized that she had accepted me completely. I nod as I say, "Yes but we still have a pact to make." He sighs then says, "We can change the marriage clause of the pact." I shake my head then say, "I don't think that will help the pact." He looks at me confused then says, "I thought you wanted your mate?" I nod as I say, "I only want her but I also know that if the marriage pact isn't made then the vampires won't acknowledge it." He sighs and says, "I don't know if you should do it if you found your mate." I sigh then say, "She left me and I left her a message." He looks at me confused and I add, "It's her choice now." He sighs then says, "I hope you don't regret it." As soon as he said that Jon walked up to us and said, "We should head back." My father nods and lets go of me as get up.
