“Sean killed Zoey’s parents.”
The words lingered in the air like smoke after a gunshot. I blinked at Jernard, waiting for him to say ‘just kidding’ or ‘April fools’ even though we weren’t in April.
But he just sat there, looking at me with the most serious expression ever, as if he didn’t just drop a bomb on my lap.
“Killed?” I finally managed to ask, my voice filled with shock. “Like he murdered her parents?”
Jernard tilted his head. “Do you have another meaning for killed?”
I drew in a small breath. “No, I don’t.”
I didn’t even know how to feel about the news.
My mind wandered back to Zoey.
It was going to be heartbreaking for her.
I thought that finding out that he had another mate was brutal, but this one? It was going to destroy her.
