“I'm not interested in this marriage anymore,” Andrew yelled out in the open, and all eyes were fixed on me. What could have gone wrong? Did I mess up the whole thing? A lot of questions bombarded my mind immediately after he made known his intentions to me in the open.“You can't do this to me, Andrew. Please don't,” I said in between my breaths; hot tears were already rolling down my cheeks.“Yes, I can and already did,” he said and stormed out immediately. His father, Marius, called out to him, but he gave no heed. I stood there, reminiscing on what had just happened. I had imagined being rejected but never thought it would come true. The Engagement
Chapter One POV Ana My entire life, I had been preparing for this day. I always knew that I was never going to be able to choose whom to marry because I was a girl, even though I was no princess. Hell!!! I didn't have any rights at all. I was informed that I was a special child, so I had to marry someone special in order not to fall out of line. My opinions and feelings didn't matter to anyone, not even to my mother. My father saw me as a tool to gain more power to create an alliance with the kingdom of Decresh, a very powerful kingdom, so marrying me off to one of their princes would pave the way for his plans. "For something to work out, you just have to learn to put it first, then your desire for other things can come after. "Yeah, right. You are telling me this because it is in your favor. I talked back to my father. " If a father marries his daughter off for an alliance and the prince does not like his wife, he could just marry another. There was nothing I could do. I just had to please my father and get into a relationship with the prince, then watch as he marries other women when he gets bored with me. For some reason, I thought I could change him into loving and caring only for me. I felt my blood boil, but this is not the time for anger. Shifting all my thoughts aside, I looked at myself in the mirror. I was not ready for what was about to happen. My mum had spent hours preparing me for the introduction, making me look more beautiful than I was. I wore a black dress, and my dark hair was well arranged with golden hairpins in the shape of a butterfly. My mother had always been a beauty queen, so my makeup was perfect. My pieces of jewelry were nice but heavy, and I was wearing a lot of them. I felt sick all of a sudden; probably it was a result of my nervousness. " My princess, don't you like the dress?" My mother asked while I was looking at myself in the mirror. " No, I love it. It's beautiful. I tried to fake a smile. "Everything will be alright," my mum said "Don't listen to any rumors about the prince being the Devil." She paused. " Even if he is, your husband might be a nice person and won't hurt you for no reason." She tried to sound positive, but it was obvious that she was trying to make me feel better. Not that I believed the rumors going around about him being the Devil, but I was scared to get entangled with someone I knew nothing about. I was scared of my soft heart being broken. He might be a liar, a temple, a murderer, a manipulator, or probably a r****t, and that's what scared me the most. A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts, and shortly, my mum came in. She had gone out earlier to observe the place and also welcomed our guests from other kingdoms. The gathering looked more like a marriage ceremony, but it was just an engagement. I stood up to go down the stairs, careful not to fall, but it was hard with the long dress coupled with heavy jewelry. I was relieved when I was on level ground again. As I took one more step forward, I stepped on my dress and stumbled forward. Before falling, a strong arm came around my waist and saved me from ruining myself on my engagement day. I quickly adjusted myself before looking up to see who it was. Who dared to hold me in such a manner? I wasn't vexed but was just curious. My eyes met a pair of blue eyes. No, wait, it wasn't exactly blue. They had the color of the sky. I had never seen one before and it was so cute. I guess I was falling in love already as I kept my gaze focused on him for a while. "Are you alright, my Lady?" Asked the man standing in front of me. That was so polite of him. For a while, I was lost in my thoughts. Who could he be? I asked myself…" Yes, I'm good," I replied "Alright, my Lady," he gave a slight bow before walking away. His attitude surprised me. Did my dad lie to the people here that I was a princess because I felt like one? "That's one good-looking man," my mom, who had been observing what was going on, whispered into my ear. Yes, I thought to myself. Very good- looking, but I was getting engaged and didn't have the liberty to look at other men. "Shall we?" My mother asked, but I was too occupied to hear what she said. My gaze was focused on him until he was out of sight. The ceremony began with an exchange of greetings between the two families. My mother gave me a reassuring smile before I walked closer and was introduced to my future in-laws. I didn't know what the man looked like since I had never met or seen him before. My mother smiled at me nervously, but my father gestured for me to sit and coordinate myself. He was unbothered that he was giving me away to someone I had never set my eyes on and also someone who was rumored to be the devil. Ignoring my father's facial expressions, I smiled at my mother and then sat down with my gaze still focused on her. I could feel everyone's gaze on me. Some stared at me with pity as if it was my fault that I was used to merge the bond between two families. They should blame my father, not me. Just then, they announced the presence of the prince. The so-called prince I was getting engaged to. Everyone turned their attention from me to the door. At last, I could breathe fine. I wanted to look up and stay expectant of my new husband, but I was scared. What if I didn't like what I would see? I asked myself repeatedly. What if the rumors were true? Would he walk in with a bad aura? All these questions popped up to me, and I was once again distracted. Stop acting funny and look up, "I said to myself. "My lady," the voice sounded familiar. I have heard it somewhere; I just couldn't decipher where and when. I looked up, and my heart hammered inside my chest, and I almost gasped when he held my hands. Wait! This was the man from earlier with the blue eyes. He couldn't be the husband, could he? I kept on talking to myself. " I'm Andrew and would love to have this dance with you." His voice melted my heart, and I realised that there were better ways of treating issues than violence. I was already in love with him. I looked in the direction where my mother was seated, and she signaled me with a smile to take the dance floor. It all looked like a dream come true. For that moment, I forgot that he was seen as the Devil, and I didn't mind dining with the Devil.
