Chapter 17 Instead of my usual spot beneath the building I parked my truck in the large lot across from the Civic Centre. I retrieved my umbrella from behind my seat. The thought of giving Declan an opportunity to hi-jack my vehicle again had me on the alert. Never underestimate a white man, my mother was forever telling us when we were kids. Since it was clear Declan hadn’t arrived yet, I settled into the lounge chair near the south window on the second floor and glanced through a periodical on Canadian finance companies. The library wasn’t busy, just the usual readers anxious for their next fix. Across from the clerk’s station, six of the eight computer terminals were occupied. It was nice not recognizing anyone.
