chapter 3

Alexander was sitting on the side of my bed when I opened my eyes again. I was surprised, as he hadn't been home much since Victoria came back. He brought me a bowl of chicken soup, looking normal. He'd been cold to me and told me to leave before. ‘You called and said you had a stomach ache and wanted chicken soup with yam. I cooked it for two hours.’ I was stunned and checked my phone. The last call was from Alexander. Had I dialled the wrong number? I tilted my head to the side, coldly. "I made a wrong call. Go away. If Victoria knows you're here with me, she'll probably kill herself." He frowned and sighed. "You like showing off, don't you? Why make a mess of it?" I looked at him, my eyes angry. "I'm not wrong, so why should I stay silent? Did you come to mock me? Now you've seen it, leave me alone!" He furrowed his brows and let out a deep sigh. The phone rang. He put the bowl back and picked it up. "Alex, I'm scared. Can you come and stay with me?" Victoria's voice was sad and scared. "Vicky, don't be afraid. I'll be right back." As I listened, my stomach started to hurt again. My emotions came out all at once. I picked up the bowl and threw the soup at Alexander. "Go away! You're disgusting, get away from me!" His white shirt was dirty, and his face was angry. Victoria's screams came from the phone again. "Alex, have you gone to look for her? Are you leaving me again? In that case, it would be better to let me die!" When he heard that Victoria was going to die, he panicked. "Vicky, don't do anything stupid, I'm coming back now, wait for me!" He rushed to the door without looking back. The next day, Victoria had committed suicide. In the video, she was on the top floor, crying. "I met you first. She is a thief. I tried to survive to be with you, but she took you from me. Why?" Alexander stood nearby, his hands clenched into fists and his face veins bulging. "Vicky, don't jump. I'll never leave you. Come down." As soon as she heard those words, Victoria's face softened, and the rescue team took that chance to get her down safely. The last image was Victoria in Alexander's arms. Soon, the story of their romantic love was brought to light. Victoria and Alexander were together in college, but then Victoria left. Victoria found out Alexander had married when she came back. She couldn't accept it and got depressed. She left because she was sick and didn't want to involve Alexander before breaking up. "His current wife knew all about their thing, but she pulled some shady moves while they were splitting up, pretty much forcing him to marry her." Most netizens are angry about this. I finished my maternity check at the hospital and went back on the road, but my stomach hurt again. When I got home, there were lots of people outside, filming and blocking the door. "Elizabeth, haven't you figured out that it's the one who's not loved who's the actual outsider?" "You're trying too hard to get the unloved person's attention." I looked at the girl who spoke. She was not very old and looked at me with disdain. I just smiled and didn't say anything. "What are you laughing at?" "Laughing at people who are too clueless to know they're being used. Do you really trust everything Victoria says? Do you actually know the full story?" My stomach spasmed again. I pushed her away, "Get out of the way!" She shoved her hand at me. "You seduced someone else's boyfriend. Do you want to run away? I won't let you!" I hit the wall, and blood came out of my mouth. The girl put her hands on her chest and looked disdainful. "You got angry and spat blood? Don't say you're going to die too? I've seen this trick before." I stood up, holding the hospital certificate, and called the police again. "You're right, I'm dying of late-stage stomach cancer. If anything happens to me today, you're the murderer!"
