The sun shone bright and hit Mikayla's face through her window. Her eyes stirred open and shut close quickly, with her turning to face the opposite direction.
She frowned as she remembered the events of yesterday. Her dad had arrived from his meeting with Mr Tunner, and it turned out Mr Tunner's son wasn't pleased with the arrangements either. However, being the adamant businessman that her father was, he had managed to arrange a date between her and Mr Tunner's son, whose name was Miguel.
As she remembered his name, her thoughts were drawn back to the man that she had met earlier yesterday as well.
They do have the same name and surname, now that she thought of it.
“What are the chances that they could be the same person?”, she thought.
She sure hoped that they were not, for her sake.
She honestly could not stand that guy, and she was sure that the feeling was mutual, especially after she went to his bathroom.
She let out a soft chuckle and stood up from her bed and opened the curtains and windows, inhaling the fresh air.
Maybe today wouldn't be so bad, she thought.
She just had to go through one date and an entire lifetime with a completely different person.
How hard could it be?
She was mistaken.
It was very hard.
That was what Mikayla thought as she sat down in the exquisite five-star restaurant, waiting for her date.
After getting down from her room dressed, she had confirmed the time and venue with her dad and she had made sure that she was five minutes late to avoid looking desperate.
But there she was, sitting and waiting for her date, who was an hour late.
She glanced around and saw that the waitress was approaching her table for the third time.
The waitress gave her an apologetic look as soon as she got to Mikayla's table, before saying “Can I get you anything?" “A coke or salad, maybe.”
“Don't bother. My date is going to be here soon. He's running late", Mikayla said to the waitress, who nodded sympathetically before saying” That's what they all say, dear. One minute, they are running late, the next they want a divorce. “
Mikayla's face flushed red and chuckled nervously “Trust me, it's nothing like that". She said
The waitress nodded her head again and muttered something that seemed like a prayer, then left to wait for another table.
Mikayla glanced at her phone and saw that her date was now an hour and twelve minutes late.
She decided that she was going to leave and explained that her dad was late when a shadow fell on the table, and she looked up to see Mr Ego in front of her, as that was the name she had given him in her head.
Her eyes widened in shock, and she stood up from her seat, staggering a little. Miguel's hands reached to steady her and as quickly as they came, they left her arms like if they had been burned.
Mikayla and Miguel opened their mouths to scream at the same time and the word that came out of their mouths was “You again".
The whole restaurant turned to look at their table and soon most of the people were staring at Miguel as most people recognized him as the country's golden bachelor.
Miguel cleared his throat and gestured for Mikayla to sit down.
Frowning, Mikayla sat back down and asked “What are you doing here?"
“Are you stalking me? She continued
Miguel laughed and shook his head, wondering where she got the absurd information from.
" As if” he said.
" Then what are you doing here? And please get up and leave, okay? My date will be here soon “
Mikayla said
“Right" Miguel said, laughing.
“What's funny?" Mikayla asked
“Are you always this slow or is today just different?" He asked.
Mikayla gritted her teeth angrily, as she thought of what she could do to him to make him regret insulting her.
" I would not have you sit here and insult me. Leave before my date gets here, or I'll call security”, she said, calmly, even if she was beyond pissed.
" I'm your date” Miguel said, with a soft chuckle.
He was amused with the way her cheeks turned red anytime she was annoyed.
At first, when he got there and saw her, his first thought was to just leave and tell his dad to cancel because there was no way he was going to marry someone like her.
But now he had the perfect revenge in mind for her. He was going to keep teasing her and insulting her till she apologized for the stupid act that she had done yesterday morning.
“What do you mean you're my date? There's no way you're my date unless…. Oh my God, no, no. I'm not doing this, I will never marry someone like you.” Mikayla exclaimed, as she realized that the same egoistic guy she had met yesterday, was the same guy her parents wanted her to get married to.
She stood up and grabbed her purse, preparing to walk out of the restaurant, because she wasn't going to marry him as she said, when he said "Would you sit down and listen to me?”
She glared at him and said "You don't own me, so you can't tell me what to do."
“Not yet, I don't " He answered.
“And what's that supposed to mean?" She asked.
" Will you at least sit down? People are beginning to stare.” Miguel said, gesturing to the chair in front of him.
Mikayla sat in the chair and sighed “I'm listening. Speak. I don't have all day”
Miguel laughed, obviously amused at the fact that she was trying to act bossy.
“I read your father's company file” Miguel said.
“And what has that got to do with me? Why would you even be reading my father's company file?” Mikayla asked, confused.
“I know that your father is having issues with his company. What's the word for it again? Oh yes, bankruptcy" Miguel said, staring at Mikayla to check her reaction.
As expected, she flared up and said “I'll not have you insult the company that my father fought hard to build and sustain.”
Miguel smiled and said “Relax,I'm not disputing the fact that your father worked hard for his company. Far from it”
" Then ,what are you saying or trying to say” Mikayla asked, glaring at him.
If looks could kill, he would be five feet under now.
" I'm saying that you need me" Miguel answered.
Mikayla looked at him for a while before bursting out in blown laughter.
“I need you" She said, laughing. “Oh my God, you're so funny. You're a funny guy,I'll give you that. If you were not egoistic, you would have passed for a great guy.”
Miguel gritted his teeth and slouched back into his chair, looking at her while she laughed.
" That was a very good one. Now that you're done with your nonsense, can I go ?” Mikayla said, as soon as she was done laughing.
" Look at it this way. If you marry me despite your unnecessary hatred towards me, your dad gets to keep his company”, Miguel answered.
" I'll choose to ignore the part where you said that my hatred towards you was unnecessary and focus on the part where you said my dad could keep his company”, Mikayla said.
" Good. Now that it's all settled…" Miguel said.
“What do you mean that it's settled? I never agreed to marry you. Besides, what is in it for you?" Mikayla asked, cutting him off.
" Quit acting like a brat and listen to me. The marriage is going to be beneficial to your family and my dad as well. I'm just doing this because I've done business with your dad before, and he's trustworthy. So are you going to marry me or not?” Miguel asked, annoyed.
" Fine. But I have some rules, and I'm only doing this for my dad”, Mikayla said.
" I have my rules too. But let's have yours first”, Miguel said, motioning for her to start.
“First and foremost, no kissing except when necessary" Mikayla said.
Miguel blinked twice and said" What do you mean no kissing ?. How do you expect us to keep appearances?”
" That's why I said except when necessary. Also, we're going to be staying in separate rooms. You'll also not tell me what to do. I'm an independent person, and I'll remain so after we're married”, Mikayla said.
Miguel smirked and nodded" I see, any past relationships I should know about?”
" Not that it's any of your business, but yes, I had a boyfriend. But not anymore”, Mikayla answered.
" How about you? Any fling or hooker I should be wary of?" She continued.
" I really cannot say. I, lost count after a few”, Miguel answered, smiling at her
" You're the most disgusting man I've ever met” she said.
" That's not what you were saying when we were in bed the other night”. Miguel replied,
" That was a mistake, and it will never happen again” Mikayla said, annoyed.
" We'
ll see”Miguel said
Maybe this marriage wasn't a bad thing after all, he thought.
