Everything had a reason in life, no matter if it’s good or bad, things always happen for a reason. Your own actions always have consequences no matter what, the world would go mad if they could do things with no consequences to think about. Violet wondered if her meeting Mateo was a part of her destiny yet she couldn’t help but think it was another one of those ‘bad choice bad reward’ kind of moments.
Sitting at the glass table toying with her food he had cooked she finally put the fork down. Looking up to Mateos back, she wanted to say something but her words caught in her throat which suddenly started to feel awfully dry. He was wearing the same white button down shirt and those dark blue trousers he had worn the previous day, they had been cleaned so all the dirt was completely removed as well as the blood and whatever natural bodily fluids he dealt with, like sweating. She thought he’d just grabbed an identical outfit but completely new clothing, considering there wasn’t a rip in sight she’d believed that was the case. At some point early in the morning he had knocked on her door and handed her the blue gown she loved. It was clean now and a slightly different style compared to the night before. The skirt had been cut to just above knee length with a new lace trim perfectly sewed into place and all rips had been sealed shut. He revamped her dress which she was grateful for, her cloak didn’t need it though somehow it was completely unscathed to everything that had happened. She didn’t complain since it was her favourite one by far.
“You’re burning holes into my back princess.” Mateo grumbled, clearly not a morning person. He sat directly in front of her with his own plate of food, yet he still reached over and stole a single bit of her bacon. “It’s not poisonous, eat up. I know you’re going so I want to make sure you’ve at least got something in your system.” He smiled warmly at her. Is it possible he cared about the woman he had only just met?
Nodding to his wise words Violet dug in. Clearing her plate completely and dumping it in the sink. He was right after all, she had places to be and her father would murder her himself if she didn’t get home soon enough. She tied her cape around her neck and pulled her hood over her head giving Mateo a thumbs up. “Thank you for the hospitality, I do hope we meet again but for now I have things I need to do. Be safe.” She said, not a single emotion in sight. Violet was so hard to read when it came to her feelings, at this point Mateo was adamant she didn’t even have any, but she had told him to be safe. Could that be a sign of some sorts? He didn’t want to think about it for too long.
Violet left soon after that. Not wanting to anger her dad anymore. She walked through the Forrest letting the birds chirping and small animals scurrying calm her nervous heart. Once she finally made it out of the woods, as promised, a black Mercedes was waiting for her the driver asleep in an awkward position. She recognised the girl as her father’s most trusted driver so she didn’t hesitate to climb into the front passenger seat, slamming the door as hard as she could behind her to wake up sleeping beauty.
Practically jumping out her seat the red haired woman groaned, rubbed her eyes and then turned the car on, stomping her foot on the gas flying down the countless narrow streets before reaching a long straight. “Violet.” She spoke, sleep still evident in her voice. “Your father is going to kill me, and then you.” Her eyes left the road for a split second to look at Violet, then her focus went straight back to the road. “He was under the impression you’d be home late evening or very early hours in the morning yet I’m only now seeing you.” She fumed, gripping the steering wheel so tight her knuckles began to turn into a ghostly white.
“It will be fine, I’ll speak to him as soon as we get there. You just stay out of sight whilst I clear your name and everything will be good” Violet shrugged, not wanted to converse anymore. She just wanted to get her next mission sorted so she could go back to doing what she could do best.
Finally they stoped in front of the three storied mansion. Cedrick, violets dad, was stood on the front porch a scowl evident as he waited for her. “Where have you been?” His voice boomed. Man was he pissed. It was a good thing she knew how to deal with these altercations. He was a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. She walked to her dad and embraced him in a tight hug to ease any of his worries. It worked for the most part as his body relaxed against her stiff one. “Daddy!” Violet practically sang pulling away and giving him the best innocent smile she could. He’d see right through it but she knew it was the thought that counted.
“There was some minor issues in the woods that I needed to take care of. I didn’t want to risk bringing those problems home so I stayed behind until I could resolve them. I’m here now though aren’t I? Safe and sound ready for whatever’s next.” She beamed rubbing her father’s arms in a soothing way. Everyone knew that, if it wasn’t for the fact she was his only child, he could kill her if she overstepped too much. Yet their blood bond cursed over every rule he’d ever set for the rest of the mob.
Sighing in defeat Cedrick smiled to his perfect little girl. “You’re growing up so quickly.” He whispered stroking her cheek like a loving father would. “There’s a war between mafias and I need you to end it. Do it however you wish. This mission is completely in your hands but there will be three men accompanying you. The last thing I want is your body in a casket.” His explained, tension radiating off him. They walked through the mansion doors, ignoring all the maids and servers who gazed at them with burning questions in their eyes. Something Violet had grown so used to. “Rafael, Zack and Lewis will be joining you. They are the only people I trust with your safety. I’ll have the address sent to your laptop with all the layouts and information we have acquired. Again, the rest is up to you. But this war needs to end and it needs to end pronto.” He still had a smile on his face but the tone of his voice was serious.
Violet knew that, no matter what, she needed to end whatever it was that was going on between the other mobs. Even if that meant her life in the process. After all, she was built to protect her father and dying for it wouldn’t be something they’d be disappointed in.
