With that, he turned and left the room, leaving Alexa standing there alone, her heart pounding in her chest. She took a deep breath and looked around the room once more, trying to steel herself for what was to come. Alexa woke up the next morning alone in the bed, feeling disoriented and confused for a moment. As she sat up and looked around, she realised that her husband, Ethan, hadn't slept on the bed that night. She felt a sense of disappointment and loneliness wash over her, wondering where he had gone and why he hadn't stayed with her. Had she done something wrong? A gentle knock on the door interrupted her thoughts, and she heard a soft voice call out, "Mrs. Jones, breakfast is served." Alexa got out of bed, feeling a bit groggy from the restless night, and made her way to the door. She opened it to find a young woman standing there, dressed in a neat maid's uniform. "Good morning, Mrs. Jones," the maid said with a curtsey. "My name is Lily, and I am your assistant maid. I have come to assist you with your morning routine and to escort you to breakfast." Alexa nodded, feeling a bit more at ease with the woman's friendly demeanour. She allowed Lily to help her with her morning routine, and they made their way to the dining room. As Alexa sat down at the table, she noticed that Ethan was nowhere to be seen. She felt a pang of sadness and disappointment, wondering why he wasn't there to have breakfast with her. "Where's Ethan?" She asked, not sure why she was asking. "He left for work." Lily replied. Alexa sighed as she listened to the head maid's response. "Did he leave any message for me?" She asked, hoping to get any information about her husband. The maid shook her head. "I'm afraid not, Ma'am. He left very early, and didn't leave any message for you." The meal was a quiet one, with Lily serving Alexa various dishes and drinks while making polite conversation. But despite the pleasant surroundings and delicious food, Alexa couldn't shake off the feeling of emptiness and isolation. As the breakfast came to an end, Lily informed Alexa that Mrs. Wilson had requested to see her in the drawing room. Alexa nodded, feeling a bit nervous at the prospect of meeting the head maid. She made her way to the drawing room, unsure of what to expect. But as she entered the room, she was greeted by a warm smile from Mrs. Wilson, who was sitting on a plush sofa. "Good morning, Mrs. Jones," Mrs. Wilson said, gesturing for Alexa to take a seat. "I hope you slept well. I wanted to check in with you and see how you're adjusting to your new home." Alexa felt a lump form in her throat, feeling a bit emotional at the woman's kindness. She tried to compose herself and said, "Thank you, Mrs. Wilson. I'm doing my best to adjust. It's all a bit overwhelming." Mrs. Wilson nodded understandingly. "I can imagine. But I assure you, Mrs. Jones, that we are all here to make your transition as smooth as possible. If there is anything you need or any questions you have, please don't hesitate to ask." "I'd like to know about Ethan's work and schedule." She asked. The head maid explained that Ethan was the Owner of a large multinational corporation, with interests in various industries such as oil and gas, real estate, and finance. He was a very busy man and had many responsibilities, which often kept him away from home for long periods of time. Alexa listened intently, trying to picture her husband in a different light than the cold and distant man she had met so far. She wondered how he managed to balance his work with his personal life and whether he had any hobbies or interests outside of work. She decided to explore the grand mansion that she now called home. She wandered through the various rooms, taking in the opulent decor and lavish furnishings. The house was unlike anything she had ever seen before, and she couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by it all. As she made her way back to her bedroom, Alexa couldn't shake off the feeling of loneliness that was starting to set in. She missed her family, her friends, and most of all, she missed David. She wondered what he was doing and if he was thinking about her. Despite her feelings of homesickness, she knew that she had to be strong and face the challenges ahead. She was now a married woman and had to fulfil her duties as Ethan's wife. With that in mind, she took a deep breath and headed back to her room, ready to face whatever the day had in store for her. Her phone rang, and she saw it was David calling. Her heart skipped a beat as she answered the call. "Hey, David," she said tentatively. "Alexa! I'm back in town. I've missed you so much. Can we meet up?" David's voice was full of excitement. Alexa took a deep breath. "David, I can't meet you. I got married yesterday." There was silence on the other end of the line, and then David spoke, "What? Married? To whom?" "To Ethan," Alexa said, trying to keep her voice steady. David's voice was filled with shock and disbelief. "Ethan? Who is Ethan?" "Ethan Jones." She replied. "What? That ruthless jerk?" He said amidst anger and surprise. "Yes," Alexa replied, feeling the weight of her decision. There was another pause before David spoke again. "Alexa, we had something special. You couldn't wait till I was gone before doing this? Was this the plan all along? To hurt me?" He shouted over the phone. Alexa closed her eyes, remembering the good times she had shared with David. "David, I had to do this for my family." David let out a sigh. "I can't believe this. I have to see you, Alexa. Please." Alexa hesitated for a moment before finally agreeing to meet David. "Okay, I'll come to your house," she said softly. David let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Alexa. I really need to see you." "But this is just once, David," Alexa quickly added. "I'm married now and I can't keep seeing you." "I understand," David replied. "I just need to talk to you." She knew that seeing David was a bad idea, but she couldn't resist the urge to see him one last time. "Okay, I'll be there in an hour." "Thank you, Alexa," David said before ending the call. Alexa sat on the edge of the bed, wondering if she had made the right decision. She knew she was playing with fire, but she couldn't help the way she felt about David. She quickly got dressed and headed out to meet him, hoping that this wouldn't be the beginning of the end of her marriage. She arrived at David's house, feeling nervous and guilty for meeting with him behind her husband's back. She knew he was a cold person but she was afraid of what he would do if he ever finds out about it. David greeted her with a hug, but the atmosphere between them was tense. He asked her about her marriage to Ethan, and she explained the situation, telling him that it was forced upon her by her parents. David listened intently, his disappointment evident on his face. "I can't believe you would do this, Alexa. Marry someone you barely know because your parents told you to?" David said, shaking his head in disbelief. "You should have stood up for yourself, fought for what you really wanted." Alexa felt ashamed and guilty. She knew that David was right. She should have been stronger and stood up for herself. But she couldn't change the past. "I know, David. I messed up. I just didn't know what else to do, I even tried calling you that night but couldn't reach you" Alexa said, tears forming in her eyes. David sighed and pulled Alexa into a hug. "It's okay. We'll figure something out. I still love you, Alexa, and I want to be with you." Alexa pulled away from the hug, feeling conflicted. She loved David too, but she was now married to Ethan. She didn't know what to do. "I don't know, David. I can't do this," Alexa said, her voice breaking. David looked at her with sadness in his eyes. "I understand. But know that I'll always be here for you, no matter what." Alexa nodded. David pulled her in for a hug and as his fingers grazed her skin, She found herself unable to resist his touch. The familiarity of his embrace was comforting to her, and she knew it was wrong to be doing this so soon after her wedding. But she couldn't help herself. They kissed passionately, their bodies pressed against each other. Alexa's mind was clouded with desire, and she knew she was about to give in to him completely. They stumbled towards David's bedroom, and Alexa felt her heart racing with anticipation. As they moved to David's bedroom, her mind was conflicted. She knew she was married now, but she couldn't resist the intense attraction she felt towards David.
