A Desperate Escape.
Chapter 1 Lila’s POV My heart raced faster, and my legs trembled against the cold floor. I wished I could sleep here and disappear to somewhere safer, somewhere cooler, but I couldn’t. I wouldn’t have been in this mess if it weren’t for the quadruplets, the ruthless Alphas who seemed to find joy in tormenting me. If I should say, I don’t know what had come over them, I remembered them as cheerful Alphas who once brought smiles to my face. But everything shifted in the blink of an eye. The home that once felt like my sanctuary now seemed like a prison. I whiffed laboriously, making sure my movements were soundless as I trudged toward the classroom. The chill of the floor seeped into my skin, sending shivers through my body. Suddenly, I heard a footsteps approaching. I froze, pressing my back against the nearest wall, my hands clasped together in prayer. “Please, Moon Goddess, protect me, and I promise to serve you till eternity,” I whispered, my silent plea barely audible even to myself. The footsteps faded, and I exhaled shakily before resuming my crawl. I moved on my knees until I reached a nearby classroom. Pushing the door open quietly, I slipped inside like a stray cat seeking shelter. The quadruplets would surely be searching for me, but if I stayed here until night, I might avoid their wrath. The bruises they’d given me during yesterday’s punishment still burned on my arms. I couldn’t bear the thought of them adding more to my pain. Finally, I could breathe. For a moment, I felt safe. But my relief was short-lived. The classroom door creaked open, and my body froze in fear. My eyes squeezed shut, I didn’t want to know who it was. I cursed myself for being so careless, for forgetting to lock the door after sneaking in. The silence was deafening, and for a brief moment, I wondered if I’d imagined the sound. But when I opened my eyes, they locked with Kai's dangerous eyeballs. Kai is the youngest of the quadruplets. He used to be kind. “I… I…” My voice trembled, the words choking in my throat as Kai’s gaze bore into me. “I… I…” he mimicked, his tone mocking. My stomach twisted in fear, and I fought the urge to cry or wet myself. “Please, don’t tell your brothers that you saw me,” I pleaded, my voice barely above a whisper. Kai’s expression deepened, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. “I know you’re still the kind one,” I begged. “Please, help me. Don’t tell them I’m here.” I waited, desperate for reassurance or even a scolding, but Instead, he turned away, moving to sit at a nearby table, crossing his legs as though waiting for someone. “Who gave you the idea that you could run away from us?” he asked, his voice colder than I’d ever heard. His eyes raked over me from head to toe before looking away dismissively. “Please forgive me, please…” My words caught in my throat as the door creaked again. The first face I saw was River’s. Then Cade entered, followed by Lucien, whose expression was as cold and unforgiving as ever. “Took you long enough,” Kai said, standing up from the table. “This rat’s been ranting.” My heart raced as I realized my ruin had arrived. This could very well be the end of me. “So, you plan on running away?” River snarled, stepping forward and grabbing my arm. His fingers dug into my skin as he scowled at me. “Your finger still looks pretty,” he muttered, his voice dripping with venom. “I guess you haven’t done what I asked you to do, have you?” Tears welled in my eyes as I stammered, “I… I will… I’ll do it…” River’s grip tightened, and his smirk deepened. “Do you even remember what I told you to do? Walk 30 minutes on your hands and knees, like the dog you are.” My breath hitched, I’d tried to complete his impossible demand, but I only managed five minutes before collapsing. That’s when I decided to run away. River leaned closer, his voice low and filled with menace. “You thought you could escape and come back when my anger cooled down? Guess what? It hasn’t.” Tears streamed down my face as I choked out, “I’ll do it, I swear! Just give me another chance.” I cried. “You’ve just sealed your fate,” Cade sneered. “I’m starting to wonder,” Cade added with a cruel grin, “when you’ll finally accept that you’ll always be our slave?” I wanted to say something, but I was unable to depart my lips when the door burst open and Cassie entered with a smug, smiling face. She stared around the room as if looking for something but did not say anything. Then, boom, her eyes landed on me, and she snickered. “Oh, there you are,” she muttered, walking closer to me. I swallowed hard, my breath quaking. I had no idea what she was about to say, but I knew my doom had already come. Seeing Cassie here, even If the quadruplets planned on forgiving me, Cassie would never allow them to. After finally walking up to me, she used an index finger to push my chest twice, staring at me with disgust. “So, after stealing from me, you think you can run away? Come on, that is far from a dream. You can’t,” Cassie accused with a knowing smile. I stared around the room with trembling hands. “What do you mean I stole something from you?” I inquired. “Come on, don’t pretend you don’t know what I’m saying. You stole my jewelry. I couldn’t find it in my room, but when I checked your luggage, I found it there. So tell me, how did my jewelry get into your room?” she indicted, her voice sharp as if she were speaking the truth. But between me and her, we both knew she was lying. Still, nobody would believe me. “Cassie, why are you doing this? I didn’t steal your jewelry. You know I don’t steal,” I tried to make sense staring at the quadruplets, hoping they would believe me. But they only looked away. “None of you believe me, right? I didn’t steal anything!” “Stop lying!” Cassie yelled, making me swallow hard. “I found the jewelry in your room. Do you want me to prove it with the CCTV camera?” she shouted, and my hands slumped to my sides. What had I gotten myself into? I was still planning to escape from the quadruplet, and now here was Cassie, claiming I had stolen from her. “How dare you steal from my girlfriend?” River’s voice boomed in the room, and my heart beat faster. “Believe me, please. I didn’t steal anything from your girlfriend. Please,” I begged, but my plea failed to penetrate his anger. “You know what? I’m not going to argue with you. Just follow me,” he said, storming out of the room. Lucien looked at me and smiled. “You’ve gotten yourself into this. Congratulations.” With that, he stormed out. The rest of them followed him, but Cassie remained. She kept staring at me with a sinister smile. “I’m going to make sure you regret this. I promise.” With that, she left the room as well, and my body started trembling. Without thinking twice, I followed the suit. When we got to the pack house, River and the quadruplets stood in front of me. I stared at them, waiting to hear my punishment. River took a step closer to me, his eyes hovered my body. “You think you can steal from my girlfriend and run away? No. Since I gave you a punishment before and you refused to follow through, you’re going to repeat it now,” he declared, glancing at his wristwatch. “This time, it’s just for her,” he gestured toward Cassie. “I want you to start crawling on the ground like a dog. I want you to say, ‘Cassie, I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I will never steal from you again.’ Keep repeating that until you hear me say stop. You have to crawl with your fingers and toes, like the dog you are. Start crawling,” he ordered. Tears filled my eyes, but no words came out of my mouth. I stared at their unremorseful faces as Cassie started laughing. “That fits you right. I love you, River,” she smile with a vicious shaft. I swallowed down my pride, got on my knees, and started doing what River asked me to do. The five of them left me alone, forcing me to endure the punishment in isolation. I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. “River, you’re going to regret this. I promise,” I muttered as I crawled. Tears streamed down my face. “You guys are the worst people I’ve ever met. You’re spoiled brats. I regret ever knowing you. Well, I don't blame you, the Alpha himself has ruined your guy's life. But just so you know, for everything you’ve done to me, I’ll make sure you pay,” each statement I made, makes my voice trembling. “Are you talking to me?” I suddenly heard a voice and turned only to see River standing there, his expression was cold and merciless.
