PROLOGUE Six months ago, Anna's throat was dust dry. It felt so thick and closed that even swallowing was difficult, This she was learning, was one of the symptoms of anguish. She slowly reached out for her mother's hand and gave it a brief squeeze. Her Father's casket, hurriedly chosen, was closed and rested on the ground. Father Micheal intoned the prayer and Anna tried to concentrate on the words, by her side her mother pulled her hand from hers and gazed forward. Anna looked down at the top of his silvery hair and then out over to the large group of mourners until her gaze suddenly met with a figure that looked like the masculine figure that killed her dad, he stared directly at her even though he was wearing a black dark shade she could feel his gaze all over her, as her whole body frozen. Anna bit inside of her cheek hard till she tasted blood, staring across the cemetery beyond the casket, beyond the forty-eight years of candy blue roses that adorned it one for each year her father had lived. Tinged with pain and grief she stared sternly into the thin air, Flashing back on the scene that resulted into this day her thirst for justice and revenge grew intensely. She leaned towards her mom and whispered slowly into her right ear "I will get us justice" "I promise” SHUT UP CHILD! The sitting room door creaked open, revealing two heavily built men of different heights. Immediately they walked in and all the lights in the house went off leaving only the dim light in the center of the dining table. The taller man wore a black leather jacket on blue jean trousers and the short man wore a black bolo on blue jean trousers. They were both wearing black Nike Air Force sneakers and an anonymous mask. "Who the hell are you guys?" Fernando asked in the most authoritative tone as the men came closer. "Stay back Aunt Emily!" Anna yelled as she heard the kitchen door slam open. The men drew even closer leaving Anna and her dad tense and curious. Anna watched as her dad grabbed a knife from the cutlery that was usually arranged on the dining table, the shorter man seized him by the neck, whispering words into his ears that made him drop the knife immediately and quietly while gasping for breath. All Anna could hear was her dad's pleas for her life as she was held right between the legs of the tall man He held her so strongly that she felt so weightless Caressing her body, her nightgown ripped off her body revealing her smooth skin and I swear, Adjusting her lingerie the thrusting began, he went in and out of her roughly and speedily till he was satisfied. "Why let him watch me while I enjoyed his daughter?" he blurted out, buckling his belt. "Kill him," he said sharply, his voice hypnotizing and full of authority. Anna lay on the floor like prey as she heard her predator order the killing of her dad. "Please spare us" she heard her dad pleading helplessly before the sound of a gunshot. The rustling sound of her alarm startled her back to reality, she couldn't believe she woke up before her alarm rang and had been lost in a trance. The memory of that night just couldn't leave her head, it kept coming back intensifying her thirst for justice. Without further thought, she wrapped a towel around her body and stormed into the bathroom slamming the door shut behind her. Anna stood under the hot water shower letting it cascade over her body as she thought about facing her mom's persuasion on marrying billionaire Williams solely for the sake of reviving her father's dying company. It is a decision she's been struggling to make since her father's gold mine company went into bankruptcy shortly after his death. She got dressed and headed downstairs for breakfast As she descended the stairs, she prayed today's breakfast would go smoothly before the marriage proposal from Williams. "I wonder how you sleep sound at night and move happily during the day knowing fully well that the only fortune your father built with his sweat and blood before his death is at the brink of folding up and you are doing nothing about it" she said, staring at her daughter with anger flickered all over her as she approached the dining table. Settling quietly, Anna poured herself a cup of tea, biting her sandwich slowly, sipping her tea gently and still not uttering a word. Her mom and aunt stare at her anxiously waiting for a response "Say something Anna" her aunt said helplessly "Aunty Emily, I have nothing to say" "I will call the surveyors to go survey the location again" "Marrying Lucas Willams can't possibly be the only solution" Anna continued "There have to be other ways" "Shut up child!!" her mom ordered sharply "You speak like you have no brain in your skull" she snapped loudly, clapping her palms Scaring the heck out of her daughter and her sister-in-law. "The location had been surveyed countless times, my darling Anna, nothing, absolutely nothing was found!" "Your dumb HR must have employed dumb surveyors for them to have discovered gold in that location in the first place" "I knew from the onset that this whole discovery was bullshit, but your dad would not listen" "Don't try to be stubborn like your dad, marry Lucas Wiliams to restore your father's business, else" "Else what?" "Else what Mom?" Anna asked loudly, her eyes flickered with anger "I will not marry him and that final!" she said firmly without waiting for her mom's response she continued her breakfast. The silence and tension at the dining table grew awkwardly. "Have you taken your medication"? Anna asked her aunt in a bid to clear the palpable awkwardness She's been watching her and her mom yell at each other without uttering a word. "Yes Anna" she replied coldly. Aunt Emily is her father's elder sister, their parents had only two of them. Not having a child or a husband She had to move in with them a year ago because of her health. She was diagnosed with coronary artery disease. She is in her mid-fifties yet she looks twenty-five, her obsidian black hair tumbling over her shoulders makes her look so youthful, Her rapture-blue eyes complemented her entire facial features. She looks so much like her brother, The resemblance was obvious, they had the same dainty nose and oval-shaped face. With a bubbly personality like hers, Anna wonders why she has no partner. Anna watched her eat her breakfast calmly, praying in her heart that God would heal her fast. Just when Anna was about to drink the remaining portion of her tea, the doorbell rang. "Expecting anyone?" she asked her mom and aunt as their surprised gaze met one another. "No," they both said almost immediately shaking their head in negative "Okay, I will check who is at the door," Anna said standing up. "Please check through the peephole before opening the door," her aunt said with a tinge of fear and concern in her voice. A few steps to the door the bell rang again "Who is this inpatient soul?" Anna muttered to herself. Spying through the peephole, she saw a woman obviously in her mid-thirties dressed in a nude colour corporate armless jumpsuit and a black blazer. She matched her black bag with a black seven-inch stilettos heels, and she looked so corporate, classy and harmless. "Hello, Good Morning ma'am," Anna said as she opened the door, staring straight into her eyes "Good morning ma'am" she responded calmly "I'm Miss Loretta from PNC Financial Services," she said bringing her identity card from her bag and waving it at Anna Without giving her identity card a second glance for confirmation, Anna interrupted her. "I'm sorry ma'am, we are not expecting any bank official, You have the wrong address," she said, turning back to shut the door. "Isn't this the Fernado's residence?" she asked, sounding so certain. "Anna, who's there?" she could hear her mom's muggy feminine voice call out from the dining table.
