Chapter 9 Mike sighed heavily when Yvonne left the room. I took a minute to look at him, really look at him. He seemed older than he did just a week ago, as if the job could have aged him in such a short time. Lines I’d never noticed spread out from his eyes and marred the space between his eyebrows. I didn’t know what to make of all that, but I knew I wasn’t going to care. It wasn’t my place to care anymore. “She’s a challenge,” Mike said in a friendly tone. “I’m not sure I’m going to be able to handle her.” I didn’t know if he meant as an employee or in bed, but I wasn’t about to ask for clarification.
