By the next night I was ready, again, to move on with my life. Mike wasn’t a part of it anymore, not outside work, and with every passing day I grew more and more aware of exactly what benefits he provided, and how much I missed those benefits. For one night though, I was going to get the next best thing. Charlie’s cupcakes. I walked into Bite Me! and nearly licked the walls. Charlie joked that she’d felt the same when they’d first been painted. She didn’t tell anyone, but she mixed a little vanilla into the paint.
