I sighed. I should have known it was coming. It was inevitable, really. There was only so long I could leave my phone turned off without getting a visit.
I set my fork down and went to the door. I pasted on a smile and swung the door open. Charlie immediately wrapped me in her arms then Addi joined in. They pushed me into the condo and closed the door behind us.
“What happened?” Charlie asked. “I’ve been trying to call you for over an hour. We’ve been freaking out.”
“Yeah, we were. I was grading papers and Charlie told me she couldn’t get in touch with you. She said you never turn off your phone. We were about to start calling hospitals to see if anyone matching your description had been brought in.”
