As I awoke the next morning, I noticed it was raining outside. The rain hitting my window was loud, so it was probably a dang storm. I moved off the bed and to the window, looking out, just as I thought. I sighed and moved to slide on my slippers before heading down stairs to greet my family in the kitchen.
"So much for a fun day, huh sister."My brother smirked at me for eating his eggs that mother made.
I huffed before sitting down on the chair as my mother put a plate of food in front of me; bacon and eggs with a side of toast or a muffin. My mom was a wonderful cook.
"Suppose so, Guess we cant go, huh?" I replied but only got a glare from my mother, who didn't want any arguing at the table, so I bit my tongue and remained silent to eat.
"We are still going to this dinner as it's important for all of us. He wants to meet the family and also you. You should be happy a wealthy man wants your hand in marriage, Mirabela." My father replied, sipping his coffee as he read the paper, not even looking up.
I rolled my eyes, chewing on my toast, annoyed.
"Almost a blessing. This is good Mira. He is said to be the strongest of his kind, but also a legend among supernatural beings. Though nobody had really seen him out of his Lycan form." She said and zoned out, after some thinking about what she had just said.
"Thats kinda weird. No one knows his face, not even his pack. If that doesn't scream murderer, I don't know what does." My brother laughed.
My father slammed his fist against the table, making everyone at the table jump and look at him.
"I will be damned if you embarrass us tonight, Florian. This is important for your sister but also for us. So keep your mouth shut."
My mother placed a calming hand on my father's, who just brushed her off like it was nothing.
"You will be respectful. Dress appropriately and do nothing while there. You will keep an eye on your sister at all times. We are going to someone's home who can easily kill us where we stand. So enough of the jokes and act your age for once."
My brother nodded his head as he went silent. Seeing Father so serious but also afraid of our wellbeing was kinda nerve raking.
"We will be just fine, my dear. Lets finish our meal before we head out on our long journey." My mother smiled, going back to eat.
I looked at my brother who had his head down. He was afraid of my father and I knew why. He never told mother what he did. Once our father found out he liked men, Father tried his best to reason with him, but it didn't work. In the end, Florian had bruises and was sore for weeks on end and refused to come out of his room. Father didn't dare lay a hand on me or mother, but Florian was another story.
I slid a hand over my brother's as he looked at me from the side and calmed down, nodding his head, assuring me he was okay. But I knew he really wasn't, but there wasn't anything I could really do about it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
After about three hours, we were on the road. I wore a simple pink sun dress with white flowers. My long wavy hair was tied up and out of my face for the night. I applied a little makeup around my eyes and lips as I didn't care for such things, nor cared to impress anyone. We arrived at a huge gate entrance as my eyes went to the many guarded men. I raised my eyebrows, turning to look at my brother, who shrugged. The gate was opening and my Father drove the car inside the long path till we hit the clearing.
My eyes widened at such a large beautiful mansion hidden in these woods surrounded by many trees. There wasn't a spec of evidence the home was old or going to be ruined by storms.
"Must have allot of money to live here." My brother commented to me as we both smirked.
I got out of the car, flattening down my dress as I looked up at the house and the many windows between it. I noticed a girl in one of the windows looking down at me. We held eye contact before she disappeared behind her curtains. So much for first impressions, I thought to myself while shutting the door on my side.
"Remember what I said." My father instructed us all as my brother just nodded his head while shutting the door as well.
The large doors to the home opened as a girl walked out with a smile on her face. Her hair was fire orange-red, she had matching light freckles along her cheeks and nose. She was very tall, but then again, aren't all Lycans.
"Welcome, I hope the drive wasn't much of a hassle?" She asked with a smile on her lips.
"No, it was a smooth drive. Though I'm shocked, the house is very large and the men at the gates." My father couldn't help but comment on the guards.
"Ahh, yes, we tend to get robbed here and there as many rouge wolves or even humans are curious about the many artifacts hidden inside the home. So the guards are necessary." She smiles before continuing to speak. "I'm Emily, basically in charge of all the women inside the home and what goes on."
"Lovley name." My mother commented as she extended her hand, which Emily shook before her eyes seemed to move towards me curiously.
"And you must be the star of the dinner." She smirked at me.
"I suppose so, Mirabela. Nice to meet you." I said casually, with a gentle but almost fake smile.
She gave a small nod of her head before moving out of the way and letting us move inside the house. Once inside, it was breathtaking, everything looked so clean and unique. Many paintings along with sculptures.
"Now I see why there are so many damn guards. This house is a gold mine." My brother whispered to himself, walking past me to check out the paintings. I smirked before following him around, letting him geek out on such things.
"Will we get to meet the King himself?" My mother asked suddenly as I turned around, wondering the same thing actually.
It was quiet before loud feet were heard on the top of the stairs. My attention turned to look at the tall man standing at the top. He had jet black hair that matched his dark brown eyes. Tattoos swarmed both arms. He wore a simple button open suit that looked really good on him and showed everyone muscle on him. He seemed to notice me staring as a smirk tugged on the corner of his lips. I looked away, quickly clearing my throat.
"Sorry I am late, Welcome to my home." His husky voice said as he walked down the stairs to join us.
"I must say, your home is amazing. The art and the sculptures.. Perfection under one roof." My father complimented him as they shook hands with one another.
"Thank you, My father loved collecting art and such things, so everything was passed down to me when he passed." He spoke with a proud smile but didn't dare go any further on the matter.
"Oh, well, he seemed to be a good man with good taste.. Ah! This is my daughter Mirabela." My father said proudly as he slid an arm around my back, pushing me forward as I huffed at him for being annoyed.
His dark eyes were staring down into my emerald green ones. He was so tall he could easily pick me up.. or eat me whole. We stared at one another for awhile before he smiled and took my hand, kissing the back of it as his eyes searched for mine.
"Beautiful name for a charming girl. My name is Marcus. I'm glad your father accepted my wedding invitation for your hand..Such beauty shouldn't be wasted." He whispered, staring at me, my heart skipped a beat at his kind words as my cheeks flushed red.
"Does this mean you accept my daughter?" My mother asked, staring at us both as she had a little smile on her face and seemed to calm down a little seeing him being a gentle man.
"Indeed, but the real question is if the young lady will be my wife. Only time can tell. That being said, I would love for you to live here with me.. See what I do and get used to things around here before singing away on paper to be my bride."
I was staring at him, shocked he was giving me an option as my father didn't really give me one. I was watching him as I looked at my parents, who just gave me different looks. I swallowed and just nodded my head.
"Speak Flower. Do not be afraid to speak here. No one in my clan will bring you harm or will they deal with me." He whispered to me.
I swallowed again, thinking long and hard before I sighed, looking up at those dark eyes of his.
"I'll live here with you."
